Xsolla had a pleasant conversation with Chinese publishers and developers at the gamescom2014 game show in Germany. We have the opportunity to chat with companies from the region looking for new opportunities and markets in Western countries. Among them, the conversation with Elvina Cui from Oasis Games was impressive, discussing the localization of games and the particularity of the game market in non-English-speaking countries, as well as the popularity of steam and mobile products.

Oasis games

Can you briefly introduce your company?

Oasis games is one of the game publishers in China. Generally, we get good game authorization and then release it to different markets. In the world, we have released 35 games in more than 70 countries, usually with 14 different local versions. There are many things to do. Basically, we localize Chinese games in different countries. However, we do not use English language regions.

How are you doing translation and localization?

For localization, We have a professional team. We also have our own marketing department and work in different countries. Different markets have their own teams, which can help us understand the details in great detail. Through the local payment platform, we try to get more contacts so that we can release our own games in partnership. We do not only make the game itself localized (content, conversations, etc.), but also make different payment channels.

Is Chinese games in a high demand all over the world?

The western market has a huge demand for Games in China. We have many high-income online games. Hardware games and fast shooting games are very popular. However, we only bring games with outstanding performance in China overseas. Most games are free.

How do you marketing your games?

Our marketing is very early because we know that different games are suitable for different regions. Generally, OASIS games and partners conduct marketing together. We contacted the local game platform, a large website, to publish our game through them.

Do you work with steam?

Steam is very different. We tried to put our game on steam, but it was really hard. You know, most of steam is an English game community, and we mainly use other languages. Therefore, it is difficult to use greenlight for games in the Portuguese language, because steam users prefer English. So we didn't use Greenlight.

Mobile games are currently very popular, but do you think online games will survive?

I think online games and web games have persisted for a long time and brought about objective income. Mobile games are very good and have a good response. Some new areas are very popular. These games are easy to download, take only 15 seconds, and can be played for free. I think mobile games are developing very fast, but users can easily give up a game. Because it is too easy to download other games. One person can play more than 30 games a day. Mobile games are a trend, but it is never possible to replace online games and client games.
