Yukon, ms SQL Server 2005 codename, its biggest feature is built-in CLR, MS hypes for this. Here is my opinion:
1. In fact, this is not a new or advanced technology. Other mainstream databases have built-in JVM, including Oracle 8i, DB2 7.1, and SYBASE. Oracle and DB2 both have built-in JVM a few years ago. When does SYBASE support it, I haven't checked the relevant information yet. I must be ahead of ms SQL Server anyway.
2. The farther the standard goes. In the draft of ISO/IEC 9075 standard, Part 13 is SQL Routines
And Types Using the Java Programming Language (SQL/JRT ). Ms SQL Server does not support the standard, but rather starts a new stove, and the standard is getting farther and farther.
3. It is still an important feature. In designing high-performance applications, some data logic needs to run on the database to improve performance. Yukon has built-in CLR, which is neither a new function nor a standard. However, it is necessary to optimize some key business logic.
