In a "Ask Me anything" session at popular site Reddit, Microsoft's Outlook team disclosed details about the Mail service's IMAP support. In addition to the IMAP OAuth one-click Login, Third-party developers can also access the user's outlook.com inbox. "With Exchange ActiveSync (EAS), Outlook.com has already supported the industry's best email connectivity, which is available on most smartphones and tablets, including Windows Phone, IOS, Android devices, and Windows 8 messaging applications and Outlook 2013.
"And after today's announcement, we have a richer messaging experience across devices and applications, including those that are not using EAS, such as Mac Mail and Mac Thunderbird."
Not only is IMAP providing more device connectivity, opening up the creation of Third-party clients and services to developers can also add a richer email experience to outlook.com.
Here are the details of how IMAP works:
Incoming IMAP:
Server: imap-mail.outlook.com
Server port: 993
Encryption method: SSL
Outgoing IMAP:
Server: smtp-mail.outlook.com
Server port: 587
Encryption mode: TLS
