This document outlines the list of log log files related to ESXi and vcenter servers and the contents of each log file
Access log file:
1, can be directly logged into the console user interface (DCUI) to view
2. You can use SSH to connect to the ESXi server (you need to start the SSH service on the ESXi server)
3, can be viewed by Https://esxi host IP
Log file path:
/var/log
SXi 5.1 Log files for hosts
The log ESXi 5.1 hosts are grouped according to the source component:
/var/log/auth.log
: ESXi shell authentication succeeded and failed.
/var/log/dhclient.log
:D HCP Client Services, including discovery, resolution of lease requests, and updates.
/var/log/esxupdate.log
: Install ESXi patches and update logs.
/var/log/lacp.log
: Link aggregation Control Protocol log.
/var/log/hostd.log
: Host management Service logs, including tasks and events for virtual machines and hosts, with vsphere client and server vcenter VPXA communication agents, and SDK connections.
/var/log/hostd-probe.log
: The host Management Service Responsiveness Checker.
/var/log/rhttpproxy.log
: The HTTP connection Broker represents the other ESXi hosting Web service.
/var/log/shell.log
: The ESXi shell uses logs, including enable/disable and each command input.
/var/log/sysboot.log
: Early Vmkernel boot and load modules.
/var/log/boot.gz : A compressed file that contains startup log information that can be read using zcat/var/log/boot.gz
/var/log/syslog.log
: Manage service initialization, regulatory authority, scheduled tasks, and dcui usage.
/var/log/usb.log
: USB device Quorum event, such as Discovery and passthrough to the virtual machine.
/var/log/vobd.log
: Vmkernel observation events, similarvob.component.event。
/var/log/vmkernel.log
: Core Vmkernel logs, including device discovery, storage, and network device and driver events and virtual machine startup.
/var/log/vmkwarning.log
: A summary of the warning and alert log messages is from the Vmkernel log.
/var/log/vmksummary.log
: Summarize ESXi host startup and shutdown, heartbeat and uptime per hour, number of virtual machines running, and service resource consumption.
/var/log/Xorg.log
: Video acceleration.
/var/log/vpxa.log
: vcenter Server VPXA agent logs, including HOSTD Agent with Vcenter Communications Server and host management.
/var/log/fdm.log
: vsphere logs, high availability of FDM services.
