Many people who are just starting to use a Mac computer may not be sure how pages can add headers, footers, and page numbers. Actually, it's very simple. You can add headers and footers that will appear on each page. You can also insert page numbers, pages, and dates and times in the header, footer, or anywhere in a document. If you add a section to a document, you can use a different header, footer, and page number for each section.

First, add headers and footers

You can close headers or footers on some pages, insert dates and times, and use different page numbering formats in a header or footer.

1, move the pointer to the top or bottom of the page until you see the header or footer area, and then click in the area.

You can use one or any combination of three columns for a header or footer.

If you do not see the header or footer area, select the Header and Footer check boxes in the Documents section of the Setup inspector.

Hide headers and footers on the home page

You can hide headers and footers on the first page of the section (at least one section per document).

1. Click the section you want to edit.

2. In the section panel of the Setup Inspector, select the check box next to hide on the section first.

Add page numbers, pages, or dates

You can place page numbers, pages, or dates and times anywhere on the page. If you want this type of information to appear in the same location on each page, place it in the header or footer.

1. Click where you want to add page numbers, pages, or dates.

To place it in a header or footer, move the pointer to the top or bottom of the page until you see the header or footer area, and then click where you want the text to appear.

2. Choose a number option from the pop-up menu, or click Insert in the toolbar, and then select any of the following:

Page numbers: Add page numbers to each page.

Pages: Displays the number of pages in the document.

Date and time: Adds the current date and time.

For page number formats that contain pages (for example, 2/8), choose page number, type/and leave a space around it, click Insert Again, and then select Pages. You can use control in the Styles panel in the format Inspector to format text and adjust its alignment.

Change the order of page numbers

Page numbers are usually contiguous, but you can set a document section or page to start with a specific page number.

1. Click Next to the page number you want to change. The system displays a dialog box that indicates the header or footer you are editing.

2. Click the start new Header/Footer button at this point. This creates a new section, and the page number is incremented from the previous page.

3, click "Settings", then click "section".

4, in the page Number format section, select Start with: and enter a new starting number.
