Brief Introduction 

The Skynet resource retrieval system is one of the subjects of China's educational and scientific research computer network Demonstration engineering application systems. It is the research achievement of the national "9th Five-Year Plan" key science and technology project "Chinese coding and distributed Chinese and English information discovery, it officially provided Web Information Navigation Services to Internet users on CERNET on July 15, October 29, 1997. The Skynet system is designed and developed by the Network Research Office of the computer department of Peking University. At present, 0.105 billion web pages and a large number of news group articles are included, which are updated quickly and feature specifications. The feedback content is complete, including the webpage title, date, length, and code; further retrieval can be performed in the feedback results; email query is supported. One of its notable features is that Chinese and English search is supported in languages, while most domestic search engines only include Chinese websites and cannot be used to search for English websites.

In addition to WWW homepage retrieval, Skynet also provides FTP site search ("Skynet Files"), which is convenient for advanced users to find specific files. At the same time, Skynet divides FTP files into four categories: movies and cartoons, MP3 music, program downloads, and document resources, you can click and find the desired FTP file layer by layer like the directory navigation search engine.

The services provided by Skynet include "Skynet directory" and "Skynet topic ". The former uses the automatic classification technology of Chinese Web pages developed by Skynet research team to classify webpages into hierarchies. The latter includes several special topics, for example, "Peking University internal search", "Beijing University of Chemical Technology internal search", "news search", "1000 U.S. universities search", and "Unix-related search ".

Similar to Google, Skynet also provides the tool bar "Skynet souba" that can be integrated in Internet Explorer, which can be placed in the Windows taskbar and can be searched without the need to open IE.

Search engine instructions

1. Access the Skynet FTP search engine from the homepage: Enter the name of the file you want to query in the input box of the Skynet homepage, which can contain "*" (all characters available) and "?" Iv. Use of the FTP search result page:
1. The "Skynet search" Image in the upper-left corner of the result page has a link to the "Skynet Homepage". Click it to return to the homepage.

2. The form in the upper-right corner of the page is "query in results" or "new search. If you want to continue in-depth query in the results, enter a new string in the input box and click "search in results; if you want to search for strings with the same conditions as the current query string, enter a new string in the input box and click "new search ".

3. Page feed link: when many results cannot be displayed on one page, the system automatically generates a page feed link, click the start Number of the result on the right side of the "Select page", or click the "Previous Page" or "next page" link.

4. Result Display: the icon before each result is the file type image of the file, indicates "image", "sound", "video", "compression", "document", "program", "directory", "source code", or files not defined by the Search Engine System type; after the icon is the file name, click it to open the file. After the file name is the file creation time and size. Below the file name is the directory where the file is located, click to open the directory in a new window.
