With the development of the communication industry, route switching devices are constantly being updated and upgraded. Many people may not be familiar with the issues that need to be paid attention to when upgrading route switching devices, after reading this article, you must have gained a lot. I hope this article will teach you more things. The upgrade cycle in the computer field is getting shorter and shorter. Therefore, you should learn to upgrade network equipment to maximize investment utilization. I believe that many enterprise network administrators have upgraded servers and employee computers, so what should we do if the enterprise's routers cannot meet daily applications due to load or port restrictions or even monotonous functions? In fact, using modules to upgrade a vro is the best cost-effective option. Let me talk about the "hard" upgrade of the routing switch device for you today.

I. Renewal is difficult. We need to upgrade the vro:

Many vrouters purchased by enterprises do not undergo any upgrade operations, that is, they only have one CONSOLE Management Interface, AUX auxiliary management interface, and two Ethernet interfaces. In daily use, an Ethernet interface is used to connect to the Internet, and an intranet connection is used to route data. However, this method is difficult to meet the future expansion needs of enterprises. For example, if an enterprise needs to add new network applications such as VOIP and VPN, the purchased router will not have these functions. The enterprise needs to connect multiple CIDR blocks at the lower level of the router, at first, the only Ethernet interface makes this scheme impossible. When enterprises need to connect to the WAN media such as ATM and frame relay, the initial Ethernet RJ45 interface cannot be connected.

It can be seen that the purchased vro is difficult to meet the upgrade requirements of enterprise applications by default, and the difficulty of renewal makes it necessary for us to consider purchasing new route switching devices. However, there is a way to meet application requirements and avoid purchasing new route exchange devices, which is to upgrade the router. Upgrading a vro allows us to do the most with the least money.

2. How to choose a route for upgrading a vro:

Generally, there are several ways to upgrade a vro. The most common method is to upgrade the FLASH capacity and add function modules. The former is mainly used to expand the network operating system of the router and the capacity of the configuration file, and mainly for older router products, for example, if the capacity of the new network operating system is too large, the FLASH of the original product cannot be used. By adding a large-capacity FLASH storage component to the router, you can upgrade the router software system to ensure that the old router can also use the latest IOS network operating system.

The latter adds functional modules to upgrade the vro. It mainly targets hardware upgrades and is relatively free of charge in terms of expansion. You can select different types of modules as needed by the enterprise. For example, if an enterprise router needs to connect to a WAN routing switch device but does not have the corresponding interface, you can purchase the WAN module. If the enterprise router port is insufficient, you can purchase the switch module to expand the number of ports; when enterprises require VPN and other functions, but the vro does not support VPN, they can still use the VPN Module to upgrade to meet their needs. Therefore, upgrading a vro through a module is more flexible and meets more actual needs of enterprises.

3. All members will work together to upgrade to the end:

We have learned from the above that the upgrade of the router is mainly reflected in the module upgrade. Therefore, when upgrading the router, We need to select different types of modules according to the different application requirements of the enterprise. There are many types of vro modules on the market, basically corresponding to any special application there will be matching modules, and manufacturers can often develop corresponding modules according to the personalized needs of enterprises. In general, the router module is divided into the following categories.

1) LAN interface module:
The LAN interface module is also called the switch module. It is mainly used to expand the number of router ports. For example, with the expansion of the enterprise network scale and the increase in complexity, the number of interfaces of the original vro cannot meet the requirements. For example, you need to directly connect to multiple networks under the vro, in this way, you need to increase the number of vro Network Interfaces. In this case, it is the best to select the Switching Module to meet this requirement.

2) Gigabit interface module:
By default, the speed of the low-end router interface is only MB adaptive. If the enterprise's network traffic is large or the interface is directly connected to the application server, if the speed is still MB, it is very likely to affect the service quality. In severe cases, it may also lead to false port death. In this case, you need a gigabit interface module to upgrade your router to support Gigabit network speeds. Generally, the Gigabit interface module has more than two 1-gigabit full-duplex Ethernet interfaces. The port speed can be improved after being installed on the router, this effectively ensures the increase of network traffic and the need to access the server.

3) WAN interface module:
Most low-end routers only have Ethernet interfaces. In actual use, they also connect to external networks through Ethernet interfaces, however, it is likely that in practical applications, the enterprise's Internet connection method is not a simple connection based on the RJ45 interface, but a WAN connection through ATM, frame relay, HDLC, this type of router with only RJ45 interfaces cannot meet the connection requirements. What should I do? Generally, there are more than two Wan serial interfaces in the WAN interface module, which can be used to connect external networks to meet the network connection requirements of small and medium-sized enterprises and schools.

4) application function module:
In addition to the three router modules mentioned above, the most common types are application function modules, which are mainly used for certain network applications. For example, enterprises need to provide voice telephone services such as VOIP. If traditional routers do not have such services, they can purchase and upgrade the VOIP Voice module; enterprises need to connect to other networks through VPN, but the current vro does not have the VPN connection function, you can purchase the VPN function module to solve the VPN connection problem. Enterprises need to enhance the vro network security, you can purchase a firewall module or intrusion detection module to meet this requirement.
