Server | Personal Server | Introduction in the Licensing Mode dialog box, select the licensing mode for the client, which can be per seat or per server. For new installations, the system requires the user to select the licensing mode of the client, and if the installation is upgraded, the client license agreement will be automatically set according to the existing settings. If the user cannot determine the authorization method, select Per server, because the user can convert the Per Server mode to Per Seat mode at any time, but note that only one conversion is possible, and this conversion is irreversible.
Step 5 Enter the computer name
For most languages, no more than 15 characters are recommended. For languages that require more storage space, such as Chinese, Japanese, or Korean, no more than 7 characters are recommended.
It is recommended that you use only Internet standard characters in your computer name. These standard characters include uppercase and lowercase letters of numbers 0 through 9, a through Z, and hyphens (-). If you use the Microsoft DNS service on your network, you can also use a wider range of characters, including Unicode characters and other non-standard characters, such as & characters. Using non-standard characters can affect the interoperability of non-Microsoft software on your network.
The maximum length of the computer name is 63 bytes. If the name is more than 15 bytes (most languages are 15 characters and some are 7 characters), the computer before Windows 2000 is installed relies on only the first 15 characters of the name to recognize the computer. Additionally, additional configuration steps are required for names that are longer than 15 bytes.
If this computer is part of a domain, the computer name you select must be different from any other computer in the domain. If this computer is part of a domain and contains more than one operating system, the computer names used by each operating system must be different.

Step 6 Set the Administrator account password
in the Administrator Password dialog box, type a password of up to 127 English characters. For maximum system security, passwords should be at least 7 characters (not mandatory) and should be in uppercase, lowercase, and numbers, and other characters such as *,? or $) in a mixed form. In the Confirm Password dialog box, type the password again.
because of the specificity of the administrator account in Windows 2000, users need to attach particular importance to this account for system security reasons. Setup creates a user account, called an administrator, on your computer that has administrative permissions to manage all of your computer's configuration. This administrator account is typically used by people who manage this computer. For security reasons, it is recommended that you specify a password for the Administrator account. Set the administrator password to NULL to indicate that the account does not have a password. The password entered in the Confirm Password box must be exactly the same as the password entered in the administrator password. Be sure to remember and protect the user's password. After the installation is complete, to obtain the best security, change the name of the Administrator account (but not delete it) and always set a secure password for the account.
Step 7 Select Windows 2000 Components
in the Windows 2000 Components dialog box, select the components you want the system to run. The components typically required for TCP/IP network users include DHCP, DNS, and WINS. To select these components, during the installation process, in the Windows 2000 Components dialog box, select Network Services, click Details, and then select one or more of the components that you want. &NBSP
If you are sure that you need additional components after the installation is complete, you can add the necessary components later. To do this, after you finish running Setup, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then, on the Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs. In Add/Remove Programs, click Add/Remove Windows components.

Step 8 Set the date and time
Set the correct date, time, and time zone in the Date and Time Settings dialog box. If you want your system to automatically adjust daylight saving time, select the Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving time check box.
Step 9 Set Network options
§ If Windows 2000 Setup is allowed to assign or obtain an IP address, in the Network Settings dialog box, click Typical settings. Windows 2000 Setup checks to see if there are any DHCP servers in the domain. If there is a DHCP server in the domain, the server provides an IP address. The Automatic Private IP Addressing (APIPA) feature automatically assigns an IP address to this computer if there is no DHCP server in the domain.
§ If you want to specify static IP addresses and settings for DNS and WINS for your computer, perform the following steps
1. In the Network Settings dialog box, click Custom Settings.
2. In the Network Components dialog box, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
3. In the Internet protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box, click Use the following IP address.
4. In the IP address and subnet mask, type the appropriate number, if desired, and specify a default gateway.
5. Under Use DNS server addresses below, type the preferred DNS server address and alternate DNS server address (optional). If this server is the preferred or alternate DNS server, type the same IP address that was assigned in the previous step.
6. If you want to use a WINS server, click Advanced, and then click the WINS tab of the Advanced TCP/IP Settings dialog box to add the IP addresses of one or more WINS servers. If this server is a WINS server, type the IP address that is assigned to the computer in step 5th.
