Personalize Excel Header Footer

In Word and Excel, we can design our own distinctive headers, footer to personalize your document, such as adding company logo patterns to the header or footer of a worksheet, by "view → header and footer," and then inserting the company's logo picture into the header in insert → picture → from file. In fact, adding a graphics file to the header or footer area of a worksheet in Excel 2003 makes it easy to add a picture to the header or footer of an Excel worksheet.

1. Start Excel, open the workbook file that you want to work on, and then select Page Setup on the File menu to open the Page Setup dialog box.

2. Select the Header/Footer tab, and then click the Custom Header button to open the Header Settings dialog box.

3. Click in the Left (L) edit box below, and then click Insert Picture button to open the Insert Picture dialog box (if you want the header picture to be centered, in (C)).

4. In the Insert Picture dialog box, locate the company picture file that you want to insert into the header, and then click the Insert button. You can see the &[picture text in the left edit area, and the Format Picture button in the tool button area becomes available.

5. Click the Format Picture button to open the Format Picture dialog box. Size, position, scale, trim, and adjust the picture as needed.

6. Click the OK button two times after the settings are complete to return to the Page Setup dialog box. Select the Margins tab to set the margin parameters.

7. Click the OK button to return to the Excel worksheet editing area.

Tip: The contents of headers and footers in Excel are not displayed in the edit, and users who want to see the actual display of headers and footers must click the Print Preview button on the toolbar and view them in the Print preview window.

If you find in the preview window that the picture you inserted in the header is too large to extend beyond the header margin to overwrite the data in some of the data cells in the worksheet, you can adjust the following actions:

1. Enlarge the header margin. Click the Margins button on the Print Preview window toolbar. In the preview area, show the handles that you can drag to adjust the margins, header and footer margins, and column widths, and then drag the margin handles that appear on the screen to increase the header margin range so that you can hold the entire logo picture.

2. Change the image size. Click the Settings button in Print Preview status to open the Page Setup dialog box, select the Header/Footer tab, and then click the Custom Header button to open the Header Settings dialog box. Click the Format Picture button to open the Format Picture dialog box, and then adjust the size of the picture as needed.

Using the same method, we can also set the footer.
