Note: philosophical stories and management-a series of articles are transplanted from my iteye blog. The http://jlins.iteye.com will be updated directly here in the future/
Story 1: It's worse to lose sight of a target than to die.
Every time a warlord executes a prisoner, the prisoner is asked to choose: one shot or another black hole on the wall. The fate is unknown, all prisoners are willing to go to the black hole without knowing what is in it.
After a day of hot wine, the warlord looked very happy. The guard next to him boldly asked: "handsome, do you want to tell us what the result will be after we walk in from this black hole ?"
"Nothing! In fact, people who walk into the black hole can escape smoothly after a day or two of exploration. People just don't dare to face the unknown future. "The warlord replied.
It's terrible to see the target. Many people regard others' success as luck. They sum up their failures as bad fate, give up their efforts, and give their fate to God. They do not know a great mystery. Your God is your sacred goal. Only the one who leads you to a successful appointment with the lucky god.
Story 2: Know what your goals are
Bai longma, who came back with Tang yuanjing, was hailed as "the first horse in the world" and envied all the horse. As a result, many horse horses who want to succeed come to the White Dragon Horse and ask why they have achieved nothing through such hard work?
Bai longma said: in fact, when I went to get the classics, everyone was not busy, and even tired. I will take one step, and you will also take one step, but my goal is clear. I will go back and forth in 108,000, and you are still standing in the mill.
In general, our tragedy is not to achieve our own goals, but not to know what our goals are. Success does not lie in where you are, but in which direction you are going and can stick to it. Without a clear goal, it will never reach the other side of success.
Management has a famous "watch Law". That is to say, if a person wants to know what time it is, he only needs a watch. if he owns two or more watches at the same time, but he cannot determine the time, because the two watches cannot tell a person more accurate time, on the contrary, this will lead to a loss of confidence in accurate time.
The "watch Law" tells us that any decision on business management should be taken without being influenced by the left and right sides. Therefore, only one goal should be set for the management of the same person or organization, and the same method should always be used, or even only one person's command should be accepted. Otherwise, this person or company will be at a loss.
A management expert in the United States said: "If people cannot clarify the principles and objectives of their work, they will not be able to have confidence in and concentrate on their work. "
For the current software industry, jobs with no specific goals can be seen everywhere. For example, new employees still give them a bunch of materials to learn on their own, or let them do the configuration and maintenance work, and didn't tell them why. some project managers started to enter the development stage after receiving a general analysis of the project. They did not focus on clarifying the project objectives, and they did not quite understand the extent to which the project was to be implemented, therefore, they will say to their employees, "just do what they do. Then what will we do!"
If there is no clear goal, the employee's effort may be different from the actual project goal, resulting in a lot of waste of human and material resources. on the other hand, some project managers just mentioned the project standard, for example, "We want to complete all the modules of the stock management system in October", but it is not clear what it looks like, whether the module development is complete or the delivery can be done, because it is not clear, employees may think that the development is completed, and they will arrange their work according to this goal .. it is too late to remedy the problem of the project progress.
To standardize employees' behaviors, managers must set work standards and objectives. With work standards and objectives, the efforts of employees should be consistent with the overall development direction of the company, this will not cause a waste of human and material resources. If the work principles and objectives are too low, it may lead to pride and complacency after a long time, resulting in the employee's work slack. Therefore, in the current enterprise, the most important thing managers should do is to let everyone understand the goals of the team. The team managers must set high goals and quantify them, work out various indicators that show progress and results in a pragmatic manner, so that every member of the team can do their part in their positions.
In the face of any problems, managers should take decisive measures to reasonably set the goals that their teams can achieve. This requires managers to have courage, determination, and determination. This is the "brave" quality of managers. Without this quality, managers cannot accurately determine the time when they have two watches.
Employees' enthusiasm and motivation come from a clear goal. In an enterprise, if a manager can give all employees a clear direction for their actions, and consciously and often compare their actions with their goals, the managers will continue to maintain and strengthen their motivations, overcome all the difficulties consciously. In this way, achieving the goals of the Organization will not be difficult.
An organization is composed of many individuals. When the goal of an individual is the same as that of an organization, the strength of the entire organization is maximized. Managers of an enterprise should try their best to make the enterprise's goals become their own goals. Only when every employee agrees with the company's strategy can the best management effect be achieved.
(1) The goal allows employees to clearly know what to do and how much effort is needed to achieve the goal, so that they have a goal to work.
(2) when there are clear goals, employees will do better. Further, specific goals can improve performance.
