Material
First step
Open the material with the Magic wand tool to select the picture background, the ctrl+i selected portrait, copy a new layer (CTRL+J).
Click on the background layer, fill the black, return to the layer with the Eraser tool to erase the extra parts until only the head is left. Make sure the opacity of your brush is set to 100%.
Shrink the avatar a bit and place it in the middle of the canvas. Now use the filter-other-median filter to soften the picture, adjust the radius by 5 to 7 left
Step two, set the Smoke guide line
Take the picture to the Color command (ctrl+shift+u), and then use the filter-styling-Find the Edge line filter to create a sketch line effect, and we need exactly the opposite of it, so perform the reverse phase (ctrl+i), so that it can now be used as a guide line.
Use the Gaussian filter to make this avatar look blurry and adjust the radius to around 6px. Use the eraser tool to erase parts of the neck and hair that we do not want to keep (in the following figure, with a yellow circle mark).
On this layer, open the Color Level dialog box (ctrl+l), adjust the highlight, the middle of the dark part of the value of the following figure (can be adjusted according to their own feelings), this is to increase the contrast of the picture, so that the darker dark, brighter parts brighter
Step three Add smoke
First add the smoke brush (pictured), note that this brush may default a little large
Ctrl+j copy Layer 1, then change blending mode to filter, now the white line becomes brighter
Create a new layer on the top (named Smoke), select a smoke brush, click on the canvas to build a smoke shape (note transparency 100%)
Change the size of the smoke, put in the position you want to put (such as the Edge line), the most complex part of the matter, think about how you want to deform it, first of all to remove some unwanted parts, this step can use the soft side brush. 50% of transparency
Step fourth, correct the shape of the smoke.
One way is to use the Smudge tool, 30% of the force to paint, pull smoke, make it look real. Note: The smudge tool will make him blurry.
Another method is to use the Liquefaction tool, in the Display background option to choose the back mode, opacity 100%.
The key to this step is a lot of practice, combining the first and second methods. Remember to create a new layer every time you add a new smoke, and once you start doing it, you will feel very much, so you won't be able to describe it in detail. Here's a little quick guide
