PMC joins hands with C3 salon to explore Storage Technology
The C3 salon, originating in Beijing, is known as a gathering of technical experts and regularly holds exchange meetings on topics such as cloud computing, cloud storage, and Internet technology. In 15th day of this month, PMC held a storage technology exchange meeting with C3 in Shanghai, attracting 45 technical iron powders to participate and discuss each other.
The three speakers delivered brilliant speeches respectively:
Zhang Dong, storage architect of PMC data center, gave a speech on four topics. Topic 1 explores "What Is Software Definition ". Zhang Dong said that the software definition is not "Open Source + white card host", but "interface flexibility can fully meet various scenarios and facilitate calls". In essence, it should be "application definition ". In the spatial layout defined by the application, the hardware and software should enhance the intelligent awareness of the application, including the visual resource distribution in the cluster. Zhang Dong uses smartmotion as an example to describe how to schedule heterogeneous clusters. Topic 2: "Hardware definition ". Zhang Dong's point of view is that, through fully hardened computing, not only is it more efficient and energy-saving, but it is also the upper-layer application software (including Software DefinedXxx) To provide a more solid foundation. Topic 3 is "rack-SAN concept ". Zhang Dong believes that the SAN concept is not outdated, the data center still needs San, and the Internet still needs San. using SAS switch and the PCIe switch technology in the future, the CPU is realized, free scheduling of storage and network resources enables local sharing and global resource pooling. Topic 4 explores "caching in Distributed Systems ". Zhang Dong believes that the use of cache in distributed systems will become increasingly popular, but there are still advantages and disadvantages in the application mode, including the node exclusive mode. The advantage is that the cache coherency issue does not need to be considered, the disadvantage is that it cannot be shared. Some nodes have low hits and are a waste. In the node sharing mode, the advantage is that the global space can be used, but CC needs to be implemented, and network interconnection with low latency is required.
Mo Huafeng, Senior Development Director of AI data, gave a speech titled "where to store data", aiming to explore the data storage in the Internet age. Mo Huafeng said that data storage in the Internet Age is significantly different from that in the standalone era. For example, massive data stored in clusters relies on cluster redundancy to ensure reliability rather than raid, data storage media is not limited to disks... . How can we change to adapt to the new model? First, data is stored based on the data access characteristics. Second, high-frequency random access data is stored in Block Storage. Third, unstructured data is stored in object storage. Later, Director Mo discussed in detail the features of Block Storage and Object Storage. Block Storage is applicable to databases, index systems, random access, and other data files. Object Storage is applicable to unstructured data such as images and video archives.
Gong Yu, head of the cloud computing and Big Data System Research Group of the institute of software, Chinese Emy of sciences, gave a speech entitled "Open Source Distributed Object Storage Service (openstack SWIFT )". Openstack Object Storage (SWIFT) is one of the sub-projects of openstack's open-source cloud computing project. Swift uses common servers to build reliable and Scalable Distributed Object Storage clusters with a storage capacity of hundreds of petabytes or even exabytes. Swift, formerly known as the rackspace cloud files project, was developed using python. With rackspace added to the openstack community, racksapce also contributed the cloud files code to the community and gradually formed in swift. In July 2014, swift 2.0 was released and introduced storage policy, which reflected multiple software-defined storage features and supported Erasure code ). During the speech, Yu explained the features of SWIFT through actual application cases, and introduced the rapid development of openstack SWIFT and the release of Ethernet hard disks, how to build a typical distributed object storage system more efficiently.
