PMC provides cost-effective customized server hardware for ultra-large scale deployment

PMC announced the first release of 16 Port 12 Gb/s SAS and 16 port 6 Gb/s sata I/O controller solutions. PMC's data center I/O Controller Product Series help OEMs and ODM to provide cost-effective customized server hardware for ultra-large scale deployment, deployment in environments such as opencompute, Windows ECs, open stack, and Scorpio plan. The port density of this series of products is the highest in the industry, the lowest power consumption, and more than 1,000,000 input/output per second, thus supporting the most demanding cloud computing applications.

 

This product series includes 8-port and 16-port controllers, which are optimized for density, power consumption, and design flexibility, and strive to reduce deployment and R & D costs and shorten time to market. All devices are pin-compatible. Therefore, three different solutions can be implemented in a single hardware design. Stable and reliable operating system drivers can be used directly, or customized for specific applications using the ready-made Linux open source code on the market. The PMC data center I/O controller integrates with PMC's SAS extender, adaptec by PMC raid array card, memory card, and flashtec nvme solutions to provide a complete set of end-to-end solutions, it solves various storage requirements of data centers, including: high-density SAS and SATA server storage required for big data, hadoop, and computing nodes, large-scale disk connections in warm storage and cold storage environments, high-speed cache for Optimized Performance of slow storage devices, and key task data raid and other application requirements.

Pete Hazen, vice president of PMC's data center and server department, said, "ultra-large-scale data centers are vigorously deploying customized solutions. These solutions are complex and diverse, it imposes extremely high requirements on density, power consumption, and cost, which brings great challenges to our OEM and ODM customers. PMC designed the I/O product series of the data center to solve these problems. They provide only three flexible combinations on the market. The data center I/O product series supports the PCI Express 3.0 standard. The product specifications include the following:

The 16-Port Controller uses a single chip to achieve the highest-density solution, which doubles the density of other products. End-to-end solutions using this series of controllers and PMC extenders have the lowest power consumption in the industry, and can save up to 40% energy compared with other solutions. The flexible and configurable single binary Linux host driver provided by PMC and the full set of host drivers make customization easy. The data center architect can easily and quickly fine-tune specific applications and scenarios.
