1. Overview
With the development of telecom technology and business, the competition in the telecom market is becoming increasingly fierce. In the fixed-line telephone market, mobile's distribution of fixed-line voice services is intensifying. In the broadband market, the dominant position of the value chain is gradually lost. In the wireless market, the growth of PHS is weak. These are a true portrayal of the severe challenges facing fixed network operators in China, and are also the main driving force for the fixed network operators to actively seek transformation. The concept of FMC makes it possible for fixed network operators to achieve their transformation goals.
2. Meaning of FMC
Many international standardization organizations, such as ITU-T, TISPAN, 3GPP, and FMCA, have put forward the concept of FMC and are actively promoting the study of FMC.
Etsi tispan defines FMC as: "FMC focuses on the network and service capabilities independent of the access technology, and does not necessarily refer to the integration of the physical layer of the network. FMC focuses on integrated network capabilities and support standards that support a series of continuous services that can be provided through a fixed, mobile, public, or private network ".
The ITU-T also defines FMC as: "FMC refers to the ability and mechanism to provide services or applications to end users in a given network, it has nothing to do with the fixed/Mobile Access Technology and user location ".
From the definition of FMC by the above standard organizations, we can see that the initial understanding of the FMC concept in the industry is essentially consistent, that is: it provides users with a seamless and integrated service experience and a unified service experience unrelated to the access technology. With the development of technology and the continuous exploration and practice of FMC in the industry, FMC has become more and more extensive in meaning and scope. The above definition has become a relatively narrow concept of FMC. In general, the meaning of FMC mainly includes the following:
◆ FMC is a process of continuous evolution and development. Its ultimate goal is to provide users with a business experience unrelated to the access technology, cross-network, seamless and integrated, and unified service experience, however, in different stages of development, the levels and content that meet user needs are different;
◆ The implementation of FMC covers different levels and focuses on integration at specific levels at specific stages;
◆ For telecom operators, the integration of current network resources has been fully considered in the near future to gradually implement integrated services, which is more important than the physical convergence of core networks.
