ADSL Modem is a necessary product for broadband access. However, many users do not know about its daily maintenance. Due to CAT problems, the network connection is often affected. During the use of ADSL equipment, it is inevitable that such a fault will occur. I. Routine hardware maintenance:

1. ADSL Modem is generally best used in a working environment where the temperature is 0 to 40 ℃ and the relative humidity is 5% to 95%, and the working environment should be kept stable, clean, and ventilated.

2. Modem should stay away from power cords and high-power electronic devices, such as power amplifier devices and High-Power speakers, to avoid signal interference.

3. Make sure that the ADSL telephone lines are connected reliably without faults or interference. Try not to connect them directly to the telephone extension and other devices, such as a fax machine. The extension can be connected through the separator's "PHONE" port.

4. It is recommended that you do not use ADSL Modem in hot weather for a long time to prevent faults and burning of the ADSL Modem due to overheating.

5. Regularly unplug the power cord, network cable, separator, and telephone line (junction box) connected to the ADSL Modem and check them for poor contact and damage, in case of any damage or oxidation of telephone line joints, it should be replaced in time.

2. Software:

1. We recommend that you do not install multiple PPPoE virtual dialing software. You can use one or two types of dialing software, such as WinPoET and RASPPPoE, in Windows XP, you can also use the built-in virtual dialing software.

2. dial-up connections generally use "automatically obtain IP addresses". If the ISP does not require this, the DNS server uses "automatically obtain DNS server address.

3. When dialing, there may often be a slow speed or a pause in the "connecting to the WAN micro port (PPPoE)" window that does not respond, generally, you can restart the computer to solve these problems.

4. For ADSL Modem and host NICs connected to the Ethernet port, we can regularly download the latest drivers for installation from their official website, to maximize their performance.

Fault Example

1. Why is the answer to the Internet connection disconnected during ADSL?

Solution: two telephone line interfaces and one Nic interface are provided on the backend of the ADSL Modem. These two telephone interfaces cannot be mixed, that is, the interfaces used to connect the ADSL Modem and the telephone extension cannot be confused, otherwise, the ADSL Modem may fail to work. When ADSL is in normal use, only the phone that comes out of the filter can call and answer the phone. If you use other lines to connect the phone, it will lead to ADSL disconnection. To solve this problem, we can purchase a phone number for the sub-host to connect the landline with the filter, and the sub-host can be placed in it for use.

2. Why does the computer become slower after broadband is installed?

Solution: because the network adapter must be installed when using broadband, the system will detect the IP address of the machine every time the computer is started. Therefore, it takes a long time, we can solve this problem by setting an IP address for the NIC.

3. Why is the Internet access speed slow? (Especially during peak hours)

Solution: many of the original causes of such faults can be: A: too many line connections, poor contact, serious oxidation of the joints, resulting in low transmission quality and excessive signal attenuation, the speed of Internet access is affected. B: The MODEM chip is overheated because it does not shut down for a long time. As a result, its performance cannot be properly played, affecting the speed of the Internet, especially for users who use MODEM to automatically dial.

4. Why do broadband connections frequently fail?

Solution: In general, if this problem occurs after a period of time, it should be a problem on the line, such as line aging, long distance from the external line, excessive connections, poor contact with the joint, etc; if it is recently installed, check whether there are too many phone extensions in the home, the voice splitter is not correctly installed, and so on. If you want to connect your phone to an extension, the ADSL filter must be connected to the distribution box, that is, the external line is directly connected to the voice splitter.

Suggestions for using ADSL

1. Do not place the mobile phone next to the ADSL Modem, because the mobile phone will automatically find the network every few minutes. At this time, the strong electromagnetic interference is enough to cause the ADSL Modem to be disconnected.

2. TCP/IP settings are the most likely cause for the failure to browse the Web page. For example, if you have not changed the settings, you can always browse normally and suddenly find that the browsing is abnormal, you can try to delete the TCP/IP protocol and then add the TCP/IP protocol again.

3. Some operating systems may have compatibility problems with components related to ADSL. Taking Windows 98 as an example, its network components have major defects, which may cause inexplicable disconnection during network connection. In this case, the best solution is to patch the system. You can directly connect to Microsoft's official website and select the patch downloaded from the system. After the patch is installed, install the virtual dialing software.
