PS will take new photos "as new as the whole"

Old photos always give people vicissitudes, profound impression, so become those "play the feeling" of the best friend. Although digital cameras now have the so-called "old photos" mode, but this kind of uniform effect is difficult to satisfy the discerning friend, here we introduce a picture of the "whole new" method, even if it is a shot.

Most of the results of this method are implemented using Photoshop's own functionality, but the new burnt Edges (scorch edge) Effect of alien Skin Xenofex 2.0 is used when processing the edges of the photo.

Adjust size

Choose the right photo, the first is to adjust the size of the photos, in this process not only to adjust the size of the picture, but also to adjust the length of the picture ratio. Because the length-width ratio of the photos taken by the digital camera is usually 4:3, it is not the case for the pictures that are printed, such as the most common 6-inch photos with the aspect ratio of 3:2, so we need to cut the photos. For convenience, let's take a 6-inch photo As an example, select the Trim tool and set the trim size to 6-inch photo size (Figure 1).

Old photos are mostly black-and-white, and some are yellow, so we have to adjust the color.

First turn the photo black and white, many methods, in the May 2004 issue has been detailed introduction, here will not repeat, the effect of black and white after the figure: (Figure 3).

Then add the yellow hue. Create a new layer and fill it with yellow, changing the layer's properties to color, and reducing the opacity appropriately. (Figure 4)

Add Auxiliary effect

This effect is certainly not satisfying, and we need to add some ancillary effects.

1. The clean and clear picture of the digital camera is obviously incompatible with the old photo, so we want to increase the particles similar to the film; select "Filter-art-Film particle", adjust the parameters according to the size of the photo. (Figure 5)

2. This screen is still too clean, make "dirty" some just good. Create a new layer and fill it with black, select Filter-render-layered cloud. (Figure 6)

Change the Layer property to "overlay", and then reduce some transparency. (Figure 7)

Edge Processing

This step is the finishing touch of the pen, but in fact very simple, using alien Skin Xenofex 2.0 can easily handle, as to how to install the filter, I do not have to demonstrate it.

Find Alien Skin Xenofex 2.0 in the Filter menu, select the first burnt edges effect, and from the name we can see that the filter can mimic the uneven edges of the paper after burning.

After you open the filter, the interface is very simple, the left side is the parameter setting, and the right side is the effect preview. Let's take a look at the parameter section on the left (Figure 9).

Next we go into the actual operation phase, in order to make the effect more realistic, we need to call 2 times "burning" filter.

The first "burning" parameters are set lower (Figure 10) to make the edges of the picture slightly coarser.

Use a rubber tool, and an irregular brush to erase a part of the photo to make it look more broken. (Figure 11)

Gently smear the edges of the photos with the history brush tool and erase some of the "burning" transitions. (Figure 13)
