Putty Accessing virtual machines
Connect Ubuntu in the virtual machine with putty from the host.
- Putty is connected by default using SSH, which requires the installation of the SSH service in Ubuntu server. Install SSH using the command sudo apt-get install SSH. To access a virtual machine from a host, you need to set up virtual box's network settings. I am using "bridging mode".
- Putty requires the IP address of the virtual machine. Use the ifconfig command query in the virtual machine.
- The first time you connect, putty will remind you that the host you want to connect to is not registered, and I don't know if it is the host you want to connect to. Three options are given: Register the host, connect only this time, and give up. You can choose to connect only this time and then see if you want the host. If it is, the second time you choose to enlist the host.
- To exit, you can either close the window directly or use logout to log out.
There are several benefits of using putty to log on to a virtual machine instead of working directly in a virtual machine:
- Chinese support
Putty can display and input Chinese. This, of course, requires the setting of the language in the virtual machine first.
- Window variable
The size of the window can vary and adjust as you pleases. For example, when viewing a file, you can enlarge the window.
- Keyboard input is not captured
I often use ALT + TAB to switch windows. However, the virtual opportunity captures the keyboard input, which causes the operation to fail.
- scroll bar
You can use the mouse to page up to view the history. If you have a lot of output, it's easy to see. You can't do that in a virtual machine.
- Appearance
But easy to set the appearance, such as font color, background color, cursor and so on.
- Multi-window
You can establish multiple sessions, each of which is in a different window. For example, I want to open two file comparison, you can open two windows, lest Che cut too troublesome.
- Share Pasteboard
You can paste content from the host to Putty.
