Cisco stores its system software in Fiash memory. Every time a router is opened, the system is called out from Flash memory and executed. After the machine is turned on, enter the Initialization Configuration or use "configer" and "setup" for configuration, the configuration should be saved so that the next start can directly open and run. This is the configuration file. The configuration file is stored in NVRAM, which is very easy to lose. If it is lost, the entire network may fail. Therefore, we need to back up the configuration file so that the configuration file can be quickly restored when it is lost.
I. Back up system images and configuration files
It is a good practice to save the configuration file of the system file on the server in the network. It helps restore the system as quickly as possible when the system or configuration file is lost.
Copy the system image to the network server. First, the file name of the IOS file is displayed. The command is "show flash ";
Copy the system file to the TFTP Server with the command "copy flash tftp ";
Copy the configuration file to the network Server and save the configuration file to the TFTP Server. The command is:
The following is a reference clip: Copy running-config tftp or copy startup-config tftp |
Ii. upgrade the system image and configuration file
When the system fails, the system is upgraded, and the configuration file is copied, We need to copy the software on the server to the router. Copy the system image from the network Server to Flash Memory. A computer is required to be used as the TFTP Server on the network, and the system file is copied to the Flash Memory of the router using TFTP. We recommend that you keep a backup of the original system of the vro before performing system upgrade to prevent upgrade failures caused by incorrect operations, including the configuration files in IOS and NVRAM in Flash.
(1) copy the system file to Flash Memory.
The command is as follows:
The following is a reference clip: copy tftp flash Copy tftp file-id (Cisco 7500, and Series) |
(2) copy the configuration file from the network server to the vronvnvram using the following command:
The following is a reference clip: Copy tftp running-config or copy tftp startup-config |
Iii. Notes for the upgrade process
(1) It is recommended that the computer that configures the router use the serial port to connect to the CONSOLE port of the router. the TFTP server software is installed on this computer to facilitate reliable transmission of IOS files.
(2) the IP address of the TFTP server must be in the same network segment as the Ethernet port of the router.
(3) When upgrading IOS, you should note that if the new version of IOS files is larger than the Flash memory capacity, you should increase the Flash capacity.
(4) always remember to be cautious when upgrading to prevent the loss of operating system files and the failure to start the system.
With backup, we can easily recover it in just a few minutes even if it is lost, and no longer have to worry about it.
