As a software engineer for Google in the past three years, I reviewed my resume for the personnel department every week and decided whether to interview them. With the development of Google over the past few years, many outstanding engineers have come to apply. So far, I have read thousands of resumes, and some of them have a much better impression than others. Recently, relatives and friends often asked me how to modify their resumes, so I have accumulated some common mistakes to avoid. I would like to share with you here.
1. When talking about the technology you have done, you should mentionProgramLanguage, your personal contribution, and product details.
Sometimes I see someone bringing past experiences to my resume, for example:
• In the three-person group, features were written for the email software.
This is far from enough. people looking at your resume want to know how difficult your work is and how much it is related to your company, so it is best to write more details. For example:
• The automatic backups for online email is written in C ++. The three-person group is responsible for designing and writing storage servers. Starting from the design, feature users of this feature were pushed to three thousand a year later.
2. Tell more facts and use less adjectives.
When reading your resume, the person who looks at it needs to make judgments. Therefore, the facts and quantity of your resume are required. If you write "rapidly improving the efficiency of software operations", it is difficult for people looking at your resume to determine the difficulty of your achievements. But if you write "improve the software operation efficiency by 40% in three weeks", it will be much better.
Some modest friends don't want to fill up their words, so you can also use this method. If you say you are "prominent" or "often invited to fight for fire in projects", it may sound a little proud. However, you can also describe your point of view using undeniable facts, such as "the New York Daily reviews this product as" prominent '", or "I joined three project teams that were originally behind the plan, but they were completed on time together with the team members."
3. The prizes you have received, the honors or praises of the business, the products that are popular with users, and the difficult spare parts you have done should all be included in your resume.
I have a friend who has been working in a famous hardware company in Silicon Valley for six years. The IP phone she designed earned hundreds of millions of yuan in revenue for the company, the award was repeatedly evaluated by the company and business reports. When I was driving a car on the San Francisco highway, I saw a billboard of her products on the side of the road. When I went to Shanghai for a holiday, I found that there was also a billboard on the side of the Shanghai Road!
Soon, this friend decided to change his job and asked me to check her resume. I was surprised to find that she wrote down the sentence "1998-2004: Head of hardware engineer for network telephone products" and her responsibilities.
"What are the product winners? What is the money it makes for the company? "I asked.
"Should those be written? "She said.
Of course.
Someone asked, can I write a project in my spare time? I think that your project represents the performance that describes your capabilities.
4. Differentiate the primary and secondary, and delete the minor scores, so as not to dilute the outstanding scores.
A friend asked, is it better to write more resumes? For example:
Summer Intern at company --
* Improved the numeric classification of video gamesAlgorithm, Reducing the memory requirement by 10%.
* 3000 lines of user interface programs are written in Java.
* Perform a two-hour manual test every week.
When you apply for a position as a software engineer, I think the first two points are more relevant. The third point is actually not necessary. Sometimes I see my resume that "the task is completed on time and the product meets the original specifications ". However, people who read a resume often take this for granted. However, when you make these statements, the effect of your resume is diminished.
