Previously, we introduced in principle the security threats faced by wireless home networks and how to reinforce the security of wireless home networks, in the next article, we will introduce the specific setup process through the actual setup instance. This article describes how to modify a default Wireless Router password until you enable wireless encryption.
Wireless network settings 1. Modify the default vro Password
As mentioned above, wireless broadband routers or wireless devices produced by the same manufacturer usually have the same password. If you do not modify it, the security threats are enormous. Therefore, it may take you 30 seconds to protect your wireless home network from attacks. Why not?
Use a browser or a factory tool to access the management interface of the wireless router. Go to the settings page, find the place to change the password, and click the change password option.
Modify the default vro Password
Wireless Network Settings 2. Stop broadcasting your wireless network
By default, a wireless router is set to broadcast its Service Set Identifier SSID, so that the wireless network adapter can discover the wireless network without having to know any information in advance. This is a good function, but it brings poor security. In fact, it is completely unnecessary to broadcast our wireless network service set identifier in the home network. Therefore, the first step to enhance the wireless network is to disable this function.
Use a web browser to access the address of the wireless router. You should connect to a wireless router through a wired connection, because if you only use a wireless connection, any modifications you make may disconnect the connection between your router and your computer.
Click the wireless parameter and mark "allow wireless SSID broadcast". Remove the check box above, as shown in.
Disable Wireless broadcast
Similarly, on this setting interface, modify the Service Set Identifier SSID name to be only a well-known name. Remember, you also need to modify the wireless network names of all computers in the wireless network that need to connect to the vro wirelessly.
Note: Do not use the default Service Set Identifier SSID provided by the wireless router. For TPLink wireless devices, it is a TP-LINK ). If you only disable the Service Set Identifier SSID of the wireless network, attackers can easily guess your Service Set Identifier SSID, so your wireless home network is still fragile. Remember to change it to another name, which can be a combination of random upper-case letters, lower-case letters, and numbers. You can write it down to avoid forgetting it.
Wireless Network Settings 3. enable wireless encryption
Even if you wear an invisible clothing for your wireless network, a more experienced attacker can trace your SSID through various means and find a way to access it, therefore, you need more security settings. The next step to reinforce the Wireless Home Network is to enable encryption. By default, the encryption function is disabled on the wireless devices that leave the factory. To enable the encryption function, we must set a security key that is only available to the wireless router and the wireless network adapter in your wireless home network. This security key must be known for communication purposes.
