You can use the number of cell phone signals to estimate the signal coverage intensity. However, this signal is the signal strength of the GSM network, and the indicators that reflect the signal strength of the GSM network are divided into the full frame signal strength (rxlevelfull) and the sub frame signal strength (rxlevelsub ), when the mobile phone is not connected, it only reflects the signal strength of the GSM network, which can only be used to determine the GSM network coverage in the region, it cannot indicate the quality of the network or whether GPRS is enabled in the region.

Mobile phone signals represent the signal strength of the broadcast control channel (BCCH) of the GSM base station signal. In most cases, the GPRS Channel signal is equivalent to the BCCH channel signal.

In some cases, the GPRS signal is not necessarily different from the BCCH signal. In the end, we need to test the GPRS data transmission status.

In some regions, the GPRS and GSM coverage do not necessarily overlap. The GPRS signal of a base station covers multiple GSM base stations. That is to say, the observed mobile phone signal only represents the GSM signal. This situation is particularly evident at the edge of the GPRS coverage area.

The signal strength has little impact on the GPRS transmission effect, and is within the signal range (-48 ~ -95db, different terminals and networks have different requirements on the lower limit of the signal) can be transmitted, but only affects the transmit power of the terminal. Besides the signal strength, the GPRS transmission Effect, there is also a very important parameter, receiving signal quality, generally requires an error code <0.2% (some parameters use 0 ~ 7 indicates the signal quality. 0 corresponds to <0.2% ). If the value is greater than this value, data transmission is unstable or even unavailable.

Specialized instruments used to test network signals are very expensive. Some mobile phones use the "engineering mode". In the engineering mode, you can view more network parameters and provide some useful information. Some mobile phones, such as Nokia, Samsung, and Motorola, support engineering models.
