Points:

1.ESXi Host and Storage communication: Ping

2. Network: Vmkernel

3. Storage: iSCSI Software Adapter

4. Storage Mappings

VSphere ESXi hosts generally connect to storage types with fibre storage and iSCSI storage. This case is for iSCSI storage to connect the ESXi host configuration.

Case scenario: The ESXi host connects to the ISCSID storage via the Ethernet network and obtains the storage space, with the following topology:

First complete the iSCSI storage and switch configuration, by four gigabit network cable Connection, both sides do port bundle, the total bandwidth is 4*1000mbps. The storage maps out 10 5T LUNs to two ESXi virtual machines. The storage external iSCSI service address is 172.19.134.102, and the next ESXi host will connect to the store via this address.

The ESXi host's iSCSI configuration is then started, and each ESXi host is connected to the iSCSI storage switch by a two NIC, which is configured as follows:

First add the iSCSI virtual Switch, because there are two network cards, so corresponding to add two iSCSI virtual Switch, enter the "Configuration", "Network" configuration interface, such as, click on the "Add Network ..." button

Select Add "VMkernel", such as:

Select one of the iSCSI network adapters, such as

Write tag name, other without changes, such as

Follow the communication IP that you plan to write to the first iSCSI network card, such as #ps: IP configured to the same segment as the default gateway

Click Finish to create the first iSCSI Communication network card.

Use the same method to create the second iSCSI NIC, and when you are done, you should get the configuration in the red box.

After you create two iSCSI standard switches, you begin to configure the connection to the storage. First add the ESXi SFF adapter with the soft iSCSI network, for example, go to "configuration", "Storage Adapter", click "Add" button in the upper right corner

When you're done, you'll see the NIC in, and then click on the "Properties" button. In the dialog box that pops up, select "Network Configuration" to start adding the two Vmkernel iSCSI virtual switches You just created, such as, click "Add" button to start adding.

For example, select the first iSCSI card

Add the second iSCSI card in the same way, and then you can see the added NIC in the Vmkernel port bindings box, as shown in. The path state is not used here because no storage has been added.

Next, start adding iSCSI storage, switch to the "Dynamic discovery" option, for example, click "Add" and prepare to add the previously mentioned storage service address 172.19.134.102 into the configuration

Enter the iSCSI storage service address 172.19.134.102 in the popup dialog box, the port defaults to 3260 unchanged, click OK.

When the dynamic discovery configuration is complete, the stored service address is automatically discovered in the static discovery option, such as.

After the storage is added, return to the storage adapter interface and click on the right mouse button of the iSCSI NIC, for example, select "Rescan"

You'll see a 5T lun that's stored mapped, like.

Because there are two iSCSI NICs, the path for each LUN should be two, you can configure iSCSI dual-line configuration by clicking the right mouse button of the LUN and selecting "Manage Path" as shown in.

For example, in path selection, you can choose to loop or fix two ways.

This is the iSCSI configuration method for one ESXi host, and the other is configured with the same method, which is no longer described here.

These are the approximate steps for configuring iSCSI storage for Vsphere ESXi hosts, in which the iSCSI storage network is gigabit bandwidth, and today's real-world production applications have more of a gigabit iSCSI storage network application because it is much stronger than gigabit in performance.
