For help in the Google great God, the original DNS resolution problem. This problem will cause the unknown host prompt to appear when the ping command is used.
Ping:unknown host www.google.com
To solve the problem, see if you set up the DNS service on the server, if you do not configure the server, the DNS provided by Google is very good, look at the following two files set in the DNS is correct on the line,
/etc/network/interfaces
/etc/resolv.conf
On my VPS is/etc/resolv.conf designated the local server as the resolution server, but my VPS did not open, to Google's DNS resolution address 8.8.8.8 just fine.
The key words of resolv.conf are mainly four, respectively:
NameServer #定义DNS服务器的IP地址
Domain #定义本地域名
Search #定义域名的搜索列表
Sortlist #对返回的域名进行排序
Examples of/etc/resolv.conf:
Domain Localdomain
Search Localdomain
NameServer 8.8.8.8
The most important is the nameserver keyword, if you do not specify nameserver can not find the DNS server, other keywords are optional.
