Previously, after some basic understanding of the FTP protocol in getting started with FTP file transfer protocol, we will elaborate on further functions. In particular, in terms of User Classification and ownership, some precautions should be taken into account for using the FTP server. Now let's take a look.

FTP user category and permission attribution

When considering the security of the FTP server, the first step is to consider who can access the FTP server. Three types of users are provided by default in Vsftpd server software. Different users have different permissions and operation methods.

The first type is Real accounts. This type of user refers to having an account on the FTP service. When such users log on to the FTP server, their default home directory is the directory named by their account. However, it can also be changed to other directories. For example, the main directory of the system.

The second type of account is the Guest user. On the FTP server, we usually set an account for different departments or specific users. However, this account can only access its home directory. In this way, the server ensures the security of other files on the FTP service. Such accounts are called Guest users in Vsftpd. Accounts with such users can only access the directories in their home directories, rather than files other than the home directories.

The third type of account is Anonymous), which is what we usually call Anonymous access. This type of user means that there is no account specified on the FTP server, but it can still perform anonymous access to some public resources.

When building an FTP server, we need to classify users based on their types. By default, the Vsftpd server will assign all created accounts to Real users. However, this is often not in line with enterprise security needs. Because such users can not only access their own home directories, but also the directories of other users. This brings security risks to the space of other users. Therefore, enterprises must modify the user's category based on the actual situation.

8UFTP Client

Ftp client. It can be said that the volume is the smallest, only 330 K. The free Chinese version does not need to be written or cracked. It is also very powerful and has everything you need. Multi‑thread upload is supported. You can also directly upload a compressed package and decompress it in space.

General steps for transferring files through FTP

The computer that requires remote file transfer must install and run the ftp client program. During windows operating system installation, TCP/IP software is usually installed, which includes the ftp client program. However, this program is a character interface rather than a graphical interface, which must be operated through a command prompt, which is inconvenient.

Another way to start the ftp client program is to use the ie browser. You only need to enter the url in the ie Address Bar in the following format: ftp: // [User Name: password @] ftp server domain name [: port number]

(You can also use the above method to connect to the CMD command line. You can use the put command and get command to upload and download files, and use the ls command to list directories, in addition to the above method, you can also enter the ftp press enter in cmd, and then enter the open IP to establish a connection. This method is also applicable to connecting to the ftp server in linux)

Although ftp can be started through IE browser, but the speed is slow, it will expose the password in IE browser, which is not safe. Therefore, special ftp client programs are usually installed and run.

1. log on to the Internet on your local computer.

2. Search for a file sharing host or PC (usually published on a website of a dedicated FTP server with the name, password, and path of the host or PC ).

3. After establishing a connection with the remote host or the other's PC, log on to the host or the other's PC with the user name and password provided by the other party.

4. after logging on to the remote host or the other's PC, you can upload the stuff you want to share with others or download the stuff that Others authorize to share (here Dongdong refers to the stuff that can be put in the computer and seen on the display screen ).

5. After the work is completed, close the FTP download software and cut off the connection.

In order to realize file transmission, users need to run special file transmission programs. For example, the Internet Express has this function, and many other specialized FTP transmission software, FlashFxp is one of the outstanding software. If you are interested, you can try other software. For example, LeapFTP has its own characteristics.
