Run IE6 on Windows 7
Preface
As a uidesigner, after developing web projects, we often need to perform tests in different versions of mainstream browsers. Taking IE as an example, we can do this:
1. Install IE6, IE7, and IE8 on three different computers for testing;
2. install three virtual operating systems on the same computer for testing.
3. install the software IETester (refer to a's blog)
Not to mention the troubles of the first two solutions, but the additional overhead of the last software, if we run the relevant program on Windows Vista or 7, we often feel a headache for doing such a test. But Windows 7 brings us the gospel.
Microsoft Windows Virtual PC and XP
Virtual PC is a free Virtual machine software running on Windows PC. The XP mode is the killer feature of virtual PCs. It provides the following functions:
1. Windows XP SP3 is stripped off to form a separate virtual backup.
2. Integrate the Windows XP system of the client on the Windows 7 host, so that the native program of Winodws7 can run the XP application. In turn, the XP application can access the Windows 7 file and system.
In this way, we can run IE6, 7, and 8 on the same desktop without causing any conflict.
Install Virtual PC and XP Mode
Before installation, we understand the version matching:
1 Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, and Ultimate can be installed in Virtual PC and XP mode.
2 Windows 7 Home can install Virtual PC, but you need XP to install disk space, you will not feel the benefits of integrated XP mode.
3. You can install Virtual PC 2007 on Windows Vista and XP.
If your OS does not support the XP mode, we recommend that you use VirtualBox, which is a free open-source software. The following uses the installation of Virtual PC and XP as an example:
1. Check your PC compatibility
To better run the XP mode, we recommend that you keep only 2 GB of space. HAV (hardware-enabled ed vitrualization) is required to run XP mode. Currently, all processors are supported. We can enable the settings in BIOS. Microsoft also provides available HAV check tools.
2. Download the XP mode and Virtual PC
On Microsoft's Virtual PC host, you can download the two software and install XP Mode and Virtual PC in sequence.
Run XP mode for the first time
1. Start the XP Mode
Start> All Programs> Windows Virtual PC> Windows XP Mode. Prompt you to enter the VM file location and password, which is used by the XPMUser account.
Then you are prompted whether to enable auto update. We recommend that you disable auto update to avoid auto upgrade to ie6. Then, the XP-mode client OS will be implemented. The XP Screen is displayed.
2. Install and update
Avoid installing IE7 and IE8 when installing the latest update files.
3. Configure VM resolution
Generally, the XP Mode VM uses 960x600 resolution and 16-bit color .. Because IE6 and IE7 use the 16-bit mode.
To adjust the display mode, run the mmc command,
A. Open the Group Policy and confirm that the local machine is in the Group Policy;
B. Open the Local Computer Policy-Computer Configuration-manageable template-Windows component-terminal service, and double-click "maximum color depth" to set it to 24bit.
Hard drive Differencing
Principle: create two hard disks Differencing by using a hard disk image to run IE6 and IE7 respectively.
Let's get started. Perform the following operations in sequence:
Create a VM-configure vm ram-configure VM hard disk-VM settings.
Here we will create two virtual machines.
Run IE6 on Windows 7
Start the virtual machine used to run IE6 and configure XP and IE. Install IE Developer Toolbar separately.
Run IE6 on Windows 7
Start the virtual machine used to run IE6 and configure XP and IE. Note that IE7 must be downloaded and installed separately.
