The first section Serv-u installation and basic settings
First, installation
Expand the compressed file "Servu3b7.zip", perform the "setup.exe" in it, start the installation, and select all the default options. After the installation is complete without restarting, you can see the relevant files directly in the start → program →serv-u FTP Server. The following figure:
Second, the establishment of the first available FTP server
1, for example, the local IP address is "192.168.0.48", has established a good domain name "ftp.bbc.com" Related DNS records.
2, open the Serv-u manager. The "Serv-u Administrator" on the diagram shows the "Setup Wizard" (Setup Wizard). This wizard can help you complete the basic settings easily because it is recommended to use. Select "Next" directly (next). The following figure:
3, follow the steps below to follow the installation wizard:
⑴ip address (IP): Enter "192.168.0.48". (This entry is empty if a dynamic or no legal IP address is used.) )
⑵domain name ( domain name ): Enter "Ftp.bbc.com".
⑶install as System server (installed as a system): Select Yes.
⑷allow Anonymous access (accept anonymous logins): Here you can choose according to your own needs, such as "Yes".
⑸anonymous Home Directory (anonymous home directory): Here you can enter (or select) a master directory for anonymous users to log on to.
⑹lock anonymous users in to their home directory (lock the user in the primary directory you just selected): That is, whether the home directory of the step is set to the user's root directory, and "Yes" is generally selected.
⑺create named account (set up other accounts): Here ask if you want to establish a common login user account, generally choose "Yes".
⑻account Login name (user login name): Ordinary user account name, such as input "Nanshan".
⑼password (password): Set user password. Because the password you entered is displayed in clear text (instead of *), you lose only one time.
⑽home directory (home directory): Enter (or select) the home directory for this user.
⑾lock anonymous users in to their home directory (lock users in the main directory): "Yes". ⑿account Admin Privilege (account management privileges): Generally use its default value "No privilege" (Ordinary account).

Third, use this FTP server

One, local server properties
1. Local server: Here you can set whether to automatically open the FTP service and manually open or stop the FTP service.
2, License (license): Share version of this item without content.
3, Settings (SET):
⑴general/max. Speed: You can set the maximum transfer rate (KB/S).
⑵general/max. No. Of users: You can set the maximum number of users connected to this server.
⑶general Other items are related to keeping the server safe.
4, activity (Active State):
⑴users (user): Display the current logged-in User IP address and other information and current working status, it is recommended to select "Auto Reload" (automatic refresh). If you select a user, right-click, and then select Kill user to Kick It out of the server.
⑵blocked IPs (blocked IP): This is used to temporarily prohibit certain IP access to the system. Click "+" on the toolbar to increase the number of IP addresses that are temporarily banned and the total time to prevent logons (calculated after the increase). The list can see the banned IP address and its corresponding computer's complete domain name and the release of the number of time (in seconds) and so on. Right-click in the list to choose to delete the banned IP address.
⑶ Session log(System log): Logs all logged in (or attempting to log in) to the local operation traces and error messages.
Second, "Domains" (Domain name) attribute
1, ftp.bbc.com (that is, the selected FTP server name): Here you can modify the corresponding domain name, IP address and port number.
2, Settings (SET): and fully allow or prohibit the login IP address.
⑴general/max No. of users (maximum users): Here you can set the maximum number of users allowed to log on to this FTP server at the same time.
⑵ip Access/deny Access (Deny): Here you can set the list of IP addresses for computers that simply refuse to log on to this FTP server.
⑶ip Access/allow Access (allow): Here you can set the list of IP addresses for computers that are only allowed to log on to this FTP server.
⑷ip access/rule (rule): Here you can enter a range of specified IP addresses or IP addresses. Accept a single IP address such as "192.168.0.88", accept a range of IP addresses such as "192.168.0.4-192.168.0.11", accept wildcard characters such as "192.168.0.*", and accept such as "192.168.0.1?" such as the restrictions of a single character, and many other formats. "Add" is added, "Remove" is deleted.
⑸message (info): Here you can change some of the informational display information, such as "Signon message File" (Start broadcast), "Server offline" (server not working), "No Anonymos access" (Do not accept anonymous logins), and so on.
3, activity (Active State):
⑴users (user): Displays the user who logged on to the server and their status, and recommends that auto reload (auto refresh) be selected. ⑵domain log (System log): Log all logged in (or attempt to log in) to the server traces of the operation and error messages.
4, Groups (group):
⑴ uses groups (group) to establish a directory of one or more attributes (read and write) and control (grant or disallow certain IP address access) in advance. Later, when we build new users, we need to use these directories, we will add directly to the line, no more repeat settings. In this case, setting up the group can greatly reduce the amount of setup effort.
⑵ set up a new group: select "group→ right →new Group", then enter the name of the group in "group name" and press "Finish" (end). The following figure:
⑶ Set "Dir Access" (Directory access Permissions): Select Add (Add) to add the target directory (can be multiple), and then set access permissions for them individually. The specific settings for this item are described later in this tutorial.
