Ubuntu7.10 has been installed for a long time. Today, we finally have time to install 3D effect. My video card is ATI radeon Xpress 1100.
It took me 2 hours?
- First, make sure that the driver is correctly installed:
Fglrxinfo
Display: 0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL Renderer string: ATI radeon Xpress Series
OpenGL version string: 2.0.6473 (8.37.6)
The above information indicates that the driver of ATI has been installed.
- Then confirm that the 3D effect is enabled.
Glxinfo | grep direct
Direct rendering: Yes
- First try to open the special effect
First prompt: "The composite extension is not available"
Therefore, set it in ETC/X11/Xorg. conf.
Section "extensions"
Option "composite" "enable"
Endsection
The prompt message is:
"Desktop effects cocould not be enabled"
Other problems
- Find the Forum and find the answer: Install xserver-xgl. After the installation, the special effects can be enabled. In view of the first error message, the changes to the/etc/X11/Xorg. conf file are still saved.
