1 Site Recovery Overview
Site Recovery Services Help to build robust business continuity and disaster recovery (BCDR) solutions and protect local physical servers and virtual machines by coordinating and automating replication and failover to Azure or secondary on-premises datacenters.
2 Overview and requirements for providing protection between hyper-V sites and Azure
Function |
Copy to Azure (no VMM) |
Data replication |
Metadata about the local server and the virtual machine is stored in the Site Recovery vault. The replicated data is stored in Azure storage space. |
Vault Requirements |
Azure accounts that support Site Recovery services |
Copy |
Copy the virtual machines from the source Hyper-V host to Azure storage. Failback to the source location. |
Virtual machines |
Virtual machine hard disks stored in Azure storage |
Azure Storage space |
Required to store a replicated virtual machine hard disk |
SAN Storage Arrays |
Not applicable |
Azure Recovery Services Agent For connection to Site Recovery over HTTPS |
Installing on the Hyper-V host Server |
Virtual Machine Recovery point |
Set the recovery point by time. Specify how long the recovery point should be retained (0-24 hours) |
Network mapping |
Map the VM network to an Azure network. Network mapping ensures that all virtual machines that fail over in the same source VM network can be connected after a failover. Also, if there is a gateway on the target Azure network, the virtual machine can connect to the on-premises virtual machine. If you do not enable mapping, only virtual machines that fail over in the same recovery plan can connect to each other after failing over to Azure. |

Description |
Required Components |
More information |
You deploy Azure site recovery to replicate virtual machines between the datacenter and azure |
The on-premises datacenter has one or more Hyper-V host servers that contain the virtual machines you want to protect During the configuration process, you define a Hyper-V site that contains one or more of these hyper-V host servers |
Run a single component installation to install the Azure site recovery provider and Microsoft Recovery Services agent on the Hyper-V host Server |
There is no VMM server in the deployment No components are installed on a protected virtual machine The Azure site recovery provider on the Hyper-V host server communicates with the site recovery service over HTTPS 443 to schedule protection Replicate between Microsoft recovery services agents running on the Hyper-V host server and Azure through HTTPS 443. |

Deployment Scenarios |
Azure site recovery provider for Hyper-V |
Handles communication between the Hyper-V host and the site recovery service without deploying VMM. |
Installing on the Hyper-V host Server |
Use when setting up protection between hyper-V sites and Azure |
Microsoft Recovery service Agent |
Handling communication between the Hyper-V host server and the site recovery service |
Installing on the Hyper-V host Server |
Used when you set up protection between hyper-V sites and Azure. You download a single provider that includes the Azure site recovery provider for Hyper-V and the Microsoft Recovery Services agent. |
Azure Prerequisites
? requires a Windows Azure account.
?-you will need to use an Azure storage account to store the replicated data. You need to enable geo-replication for your account. It should be in the same region as the Azure Site Recovery vault and be associated with the same subscription.
?-an Azure virtual network is required so that the replicated virtual machines can be connected to the network after failover.
Hyper-V Prerequisites
? There is at least one server running Windows server R2 in the source local site, and the Hyper-V role exists in the source site.
? The Hyper-V server should contain one or more virtual machines.
? The Hyper-V server should be connected to the Internet either directly or through a proxy.
? The Hyper-V server should install the hotfix that is mentioned in KB2961977.
Provider and Agent Prerequisites
During the deployment of Azure site Recovery, you will install the Azure site Recovery provider and Azure Recovery services Proxy on each Hyper-V server that contains the virtual machines you want to protect. Please note:
? You should run the latest version of the provider and the agent.
? All Hyper-V servers in the vault should have the same version.
? The provider will need to connect to Azure Site Recovery over the Internet. You can use the proxy settings that are currently configured on the VMM server or use the custom proxy settings that you configured during the installation provider to implement a deployment without a proxy. To use an existing proxy server, make sure that the URL used to connect to Azure can go through the firewall:? **.hypervrecoverymanager.windowsazure.cn
? **.accesscontrol.chinacloudapi.cn
? **.backup.windowsazure.cn
? **.blob.core.chinacloudapi.cn
? **.store.core.chinacloudapi.cn
? To use a custom proxy, set the proxy server before you install the provider. During the provisioning provider, you need to specify the proxy server address and port, as well as the credentials for access. Please note that HTTPS-based proxies are not supported.

Set replication frequency in replication settings to specify how often data differences are synchronized between the source and destination. can be set to 30 seconds, 5 minutes, or 15 minutes.
In preserve recovery points, specify the number of hours that the recovery history should be stored, which can be set to 0-24 hours.
In the frequency of application-consistent snapshots, you can specify whether to take a snapshot using Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) to ensure that the application is in a consistent state when the snapshot is taken.
In initial replication start time, specify when the initial replication of the virtual machines in the protection group should be sent to Azure.
