Some Ideas about managing large files in SharePoint

Recently, I participated in a Sharepoint document management project involving the use of Sharepoint to manage large files. Now I just have a little idea about this problem. Write it down and make a backup.

The large files mentioned here are actually quite big, all of which are TB-level. Originally, we considered using Sharepoint to store files directly. However, this solution was directly denied due to the file size issue.

1. By default, Sharepoint can only upload 50 MB files. By modifying the configuration, you can increase this limit to 2 GB. This 2 GB limit may be related to the SQL Server field storage limit. However, no matter how TB-level data is stored in Sharepoint

2. Another question about bandwidth is also raised. Even hundreds of megabytes of files are time-consuming when being uploaded to SharePoint. In the case of Intranet, timeout may occur, and the Internet is even more unavailable.

If the customer looks at SharePoint as long as it has a pretty skin (although it has to vomit), it must be used in short. Therefore, the current approach is to work with SharePoint management and other storage technologies (file system...) to achieve this goal.

Here, we also need to consider different storage technologies. After all, it is easier to integrate the implementation of Windows File System with Sharepoint... If other storage technologies, such as EMC Documentum, are the same in principle, they only have different implementations. Whatever implementation, the things to be considered are basically the same. I have listed the following items. Currently, I just want

1. When the file is stored in file system, create a corresponding SharePoint item. It is best to create the same hierarchy in SharePoint for ease of control.

2. Synchronize the permissions of the two (the actual file and the corresponding SharePoint item.

3. Maintain the File status monitoring. The changes in the File hierarchy must be reflected in Sharepoint.

4. Maintain file status monitoring and control the check in/out status of SharePoint items when modifying files.

5. Maintain file status monitoring. When the file is destroyed, the corresponding SharePoint item must be deleted at the same time.

6. SharePoint item stores the metadata of the file. modifications to the original data cannot affect the File status.

Now I only think about this. If I think about it more, I will add it later...
