You can use SQL Anywhere Studio to send information to workgroups, mobile, and embedded database systems throughout your organization.
SQL Anywhere Studio contains the following components.
Relational database system
The relational database at the core of the adaptive Server Anywhere product is a transactional SQL database that applies to both individuals and workgroups. Adaptive Server Anywhere can run on a variety of operating systems, including various Windows and UNIX operating systems, and Novell NetWare operating system. The hardware that runs the database includes a multiple-CPU workgroup server, a minimal PC, and a Windows CE device.
UltraLite is used to create and deploy relational database applications on small devices.
This includes Palm Computing Platform and Windows CE. UltraLite has built-in capabilities to support MobiLink synchronization.
UltraLite lets you create relational databases with less than a KB of disk space, specifically for small devices.
Data synchronization Technology
MobiLink is used for bidirectional data synchronization between a central database and multiple remote UltraLite or adaptiveserver Anywhere databases. The central database can be adaptive server Anywhere, Adaptive Server Enterprise, or other
DBMS (such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, or IBM DB2).
SQL Remote
Used for two-way data replication between a central database and multiple remote databases based on messages. You can use SQL Remote to replicate data between a laptop and a central database (via e-mail or dial-up access).
The replication agent is used to copy data from the Adaptive Server Anywhere database to another database (through the Sybase Replication server).
Development, design, and management tools
Infomaker is used to query the database and create complex and efficient custom data reports. Infomaker is also a personal data assistant used to work with data in a variety of ways.
PowerDesigner
Used to design, build, record, and maintain databases.
Management and development tools
SQL Anywhere Studio includes the Sybase Hub Database administration tool, the Interactive SQL Database utility, and the query Editor and stored procedure debugger.
SQL Anywhere Studio contains an accessibility implementation module that you can choose to install.
This component provides the Sun Accessbridge module, which is loaded each time you use Sybase or interactive SQL. Third-party software, such as screen readers, can use this module to provide access to software functionality.
Infomaker and PowerDesigner are used only for Windows operating systems. However, they can be used as clients of a server running on any supported operating system.
Components that are licensed separately
The following components are licensed separately and must be ordered before installation.
Java options must be purchased separately to allow Java virtual machines and Run-time classes to be used in the database.
SQL Anywhere Studio Security Options
Software that is highly encrypted must be ordered separately. High encryption can be used in the following situations:
Adaptive transport-Layer Security between server Anywhere database servers and clients.
Transport-Layer Security between the MobiLink synchronization server and the client.
Aes_fips database encryption. (Contains AES database file encryption except aes_fips in the underlying package without requiring a separate license.) )
