The following methods (tools) are used to create a slice cache in ArcGIS 10.1:
First, generate the slice by generating the TPK of the slice package.
TPK is a new data type added to ArcGIS 10.1. It can be generated by sharing the slice package.
Note that to enable this function, you must check the "enable ArcGIS runtime tool" check box in the ArcMap option dialog box and sharing tab.
Second, use the "Create map slicing package" tool to generate a slicing TPK.
You can use the "Create map slicing package" tool in the data management toolkit to generate TPK slicing.
Third, create a slice cache when publishing the map service. Do not go into details.
Fourth, use the "Create map server cache" tool to generate the slice cache.
The first, second, and fourth methods are basically the same. the similarities and differences between them are as follows:
1. The tools in the toolbox involved above can be used with the desktop basic level license.
2. The first and second data sources must be mxd documents, and the third and fourth data sources must be map services.
3. For details about the slicing solution, select ArcGIS online/Bing Maps/Google Maps, map service, and slicing solution files.
4. For the first two types, the TPK package is cut out, and the content in the package is compact slice. For the third and fourth types, the split can be loose or compact.
5. Slice is generated in the first two. server is not required. server is required for the fourth slice generation.
