Switching Hubs exchange Hub

A switched hub is a device that can reduce access competition in a shared network topology. The technology used is to reduce the number of nodes in a specific segment by using a differential segment. On a network with a differential segment, the number of nodes in a local network segment may be less than one. In this case, the exchange hub processes all the connections between nodes that need to communicate with each other on different network segments. Note that the exchange technology mentioned here is different from the port exchange technology discussed earlier. Port exchange is essentially a management function. With this function, managers can use a management program instead of physically moving the hub cable to move the workstation between logical segments. With the exchange technology, the LAN can be segmented. Similar to a bridge, the exchange hub processes data between segments, but the throughput of the exchange hub is not lower than that of the bridge. Initially, the exchange hub was designed for department use and built on its own baseboard. The latest exchange hubs are some modular units located in the enterprise hub.

If you have a network composed of 20 user groups and the network stops running due to overload of information transmission, you can split it into two segments and bridge them, in this way, the data transmission load of the entire system will be reduced and competition access on each new network segment will be reduced. All users or devices in the same network segment can communicate with each other normally. Only in this way can the communication between segments be reduced. If the traffic is still faulty, you can divide the LAN into four or six segments. The exchange hub can complete such segments exactly. A hub has many ports, each of which is a dedicated LAN segment.

The exchange hub uses an internal matrix switch to Process Communication Between CIDR blocks. All switches are processed at the media access control MAC layer. When a group arrives at a switch, its destination address is quickly identified and a channel is established to the corresponding terminal network segment. The subsequent group relay through the switch without storing the forwarding group. Storage Forwarding is required by the bridge.

Most switching hubs are suitable for Ethernet, so a separate workstation connected to the port can reach a throughput of 10 Mbps. Because no other Workstation Shares this port, there is no competition, and the workstation gets the whole bandwidth on this network segment. Some manufacturers are also producing the switch-type ring-based hubs. High-speed exchange hub is also suitable for asynchronous transmission mode ATM) Exchange type baseboard.

The concept of a switched hub was first proposed by Kalpana in its EtherSwitch. EtherSwitch technology is also used in products of other vendors. For example, HP company integrated it into its EtherTwist hub, and SynOptics communication company also used EtherSwitch Technology in the LattisSwitch 3000 series hubs.
