Rebuilding a database using Sybase
You can use the Unload Database Wizard to rebuild the legacy database. In the wizard you can choose to create a new database, replace an existing database with a new one, or uninstall the database to a file. We strongly recommend that you back up the database before rebuilding, especially if you choose to use a new database instead of the old database option.
Sybase the upgrade note
• The database file must be installed on the same computer as SQL Anywhere 10.
• A subset of tables cannot be unloaded from the database. You must use the Dbunload utility to complete it.
• If the database Uninstall Wizard discovers that the database file is already running, the database will be stopped before the uninstall begins.
Upgrading the database file format in Sybase Central
1, read carefully "the important things in the upgrade."
2. If possible, defragment your disk. Because disk fragmentation can cause database performance to degrade.
3, to ensure that a single user access to the database will be unloaded and loaded, do not allow other users to connect.
4, start Sybase.
In the Start menu, select program >sql Anywhere 10> Sybase Central.
5, from the Tools menu, select the SQL Anywhere >unload database (unload databases). Or click on the database for version 9 or earlier to prepare SQL Anywhere 10.
The Unload Database Wizard opens.
6, after reading the introduction of the wizard, click Next.
7, select "Uninstall the database not running" and enter the connection information. Click Next.
8, select "Unload and load to new database". Click Next.
9, specify the new file name of the database. Click Next.
You can specify the page size of the new database. In version 10, the default (recommended) page size is 4096 bytes.
The database can be encrypted according to your needs. If you start an encrypted database, you need to provide an encryption key.
10, choose "Unload Structure and data". Click Next.
11. Choose whether you want to connect to the new database after the uninstall/load is complete.
12, click Finish to start the process. Check the new database to make sure that the upgrade completes correctly.
Rebuilding a database using the Unload utility rebuilds the legacy database using the Database uninstall utility (Dbunload) with the-an or-ar option:
The-an option is the recommended option because he wants to create a new database.
The-ar option replaces the old version of the database with a new database of version 10.
We recommend that you back up the database before rebuilding it.
