The main consideration is that the pace of work and life is accelerating, and it is difficult to have a long period of time for special study. For this reason, some people shouted that books will be fragmented and video courses will also be fragmented in the future, so that they can make full use of the Minutes before eating and 10 minutes before going to bed, even a few minutes to go to the toilet and wait for all the time you can use to study. In the end, we hope to achieve the goal of comprehensive learning through the accumulation of time.

 

It seems reasonable and quite in line with the characteristics of the times, but I believe that the study of technology cannot be done in this way. Entertainment can be fragmented, rest can be fragmented, and information can be obtained, because these aspects are not closely related to each other. However, learning technology cannot be fragmented, because it is impossible for any technology to simply accumulate isolated knowledge points. Instead, it is the horizontal and vertical integration of knowledge points to implement a complex function through mutual collaboration. If you want to say yes, you can only say that you have not studied it in depth, but stay on the surface of superficial concepts.

 

Just as we usually remember English words, we can use fragments to remember a few or even dozens of words every day. Many words can be written down in a year, but can we remember so many words, can you have a good level of English? Obviously not. After remembering words, the key is to learn how to use these words to make sentences and use them flexibly in daily English Writing and communication, however, this is far from just a few minutes.

 

IT technology (similar to other industry technologies) has many terms, such as English words and Chinese characters, but the technology itself is far from being replaced by these terms. These terms are only one element in the process of technical principles or technical functions. The complete implementation of functional principles needs to be implemented under the Joint Action of these elements. It is a complicated process, it can't be clearly explained in a few minutes, or understood in such a short time. Otherwise, the final result will only be "only tree, not forest ".

 

For example, the IP address allocation principle of a simple DHCP server is implemented through the interaction of Multiple DHCP packets. But can we only understand the concepts of these packets and their main functions? Certainly not. The automatic allocation of IP addresses of DHCP servers is a complicated process of message interaction, which involves the reasons for the value changes and changes in various packets. This is the true principle, it's not just a few minutes to tell clearly, or even a dozen or even 20 minutes.

 

For another example, in terms of the TCP Data Segment format, many people may simply remember the basic functions of each field and will not deeply understand these fields in combination with their applications, in addition, few people can understand the implementation principles of TCP functions based on the functions of multiple fields (for example, the confirmation mechanism of TCP involves "Serial Number", "window size", and "Confirmation ". and ACK ).

 

Another example is the establishment of the OSPF protocol, which involves changes in the state machines of multiple OSPF router interfaces, it is impossible for us to understand the establishing principle of OSPF neighbor relationship by understanding these state machines, because each state change also involves the interaction of multiple OSPF packets, it involves the working principle of various OSPF packets.

 

Think about it. If we use fragmented learning methods to learn this kind of technology, every time we read a few minutes of books or videos, one principle will be interrupted before we finish learning it. We will come back next time, can you still connect your thinking? With a broken line of thinking, the effect of learning will be greatly reduced. Learning with a hard head can only stay at the level of "Recognizing words" at most. Try again. If books and videos are written in fragmented mode or recorded, the content of each section in the book will not exceed one page, and the content of each video course will be several minutes, in this way, there will be a lot of theoretical content to be split into multiple sections or lessons. This man-made "Fragmentation" will, on the one hand, make our books and Video Courses unorganized, the chapter structure is disorganized, the lack of systematic, on the other hand, make the reader's learning not systematic, in-depth, it seriously affects our learning results, and it is difficult to form a complete knowledge system.

 

For this reason, neither my books nor my video courses adopt the "Fragmentation" method. The short section in the book is short, the long is long, and the same is true for my video courses, each lesson is generally about 30 minutes (you can explain relevant knowledge points in one lesson, so that each lesson has a relatively complete knowledge system ), I don't want to split up nearly 200 course classes because they belong to a complete system.
