Objective

Paper art is originally used as material for the creation of paper, but because the PS can imitate the texture of paper, so designers will inevitably think of using PS to create paper effects. This kind of effect of the production method is very simple, the use of layer style can easily make paper texture, but the premise is to arrange the paper cascade relationship, there are many details need us in the production process slowly experience.

Shape-making

  Step 01

First conceive a simple scene and draw your abstract pattern on the paper. The three-dimensional performance of the stack of paper is distinguished by color in my sketch. The colors here are used only to differentiate between the boundaries of different tiers.

Step 02

Then the hand-drawn text into a vector map, drag the artwork into PS, create a new layer, with the pen tool to draw along the sideline. As far as possible to make the line transition to natural smooth, finished painting filled with light blue #e4f1fb.

Step 03

Finish the first layer, then draw the second layer, and then create a new layer above the layer on the previous step, and then close the layer on the previous step to make it visible. Because we are starting from the outermost layer, it is always larger than the layer below, blocking the next layer. And then fill the #c7ddef.

When we look at the first and second layers, we find that the second layer is "lying" above the first floor, but some are staggered. As shown in the figure below the "staggered part", these parts in fact, in hand-painted is not displayed, but also our paper art effect between the middle and layer of the mutual occlusion of the place. Although there is no performance, but you have to draw the whole, so as to maintain the shape of the overall shape. Because this part is blocked, so how to express the line is not absolute, just to keep the transition natural can be. It cannot be drawn indiscriminately because it is obscured.

Step 04

According to the previous drawing logic, continue to draw the next layer, according to my experience, cascade more times, it is easy to confuse. So when you're drawing, keep in mind that the lines you're drawing are between the two colors, and don't make a mistake. For example, I'm drawing a line between magenta and blue, and accidentally goes between orange and blue. The third layer of blue is filled with #c2eaf6.

Step 05

Next, we'll draw the fourth and fifth and sixth layers, all using the same method. The color of the fill can be darker blue. My color is the fourth-level fill #3695c6, the fifth layer fills the #1f6fc8, and the sixth layer fills the #12426a. Our color is gradually a layer of depth, so as to show a lake like water 1.1 points to the depths of the feeling.

These six layers are painted well and open together to be visible. They also overlap in order on the layers.

Do you remember the previous talk about some of the staggered parts of these layers? These parts were not visible, but I let them all out here. To keep them "hidden," I used to remove these staggered portions by adding masks to each layer.

The logic of this step is this, we want to delete the first and second layer of the second layer of the wrong part, then we need to add a mask to the second layer, to the mask of the wrong parts of the fill black to hide. But the premise is that we have to find the wrong parts of them. This is simple, hold down the CTRL key, click on the first layer of the layer, so that the ant line loaded into the first level of the selection, and then the Ctrl+shift+i to get the first layer of the selection, according to the selection in the second layer of the mask filled with black, the wrong part of the successful deletion.

Step 07

In the same order, use the mask layer for deletion until the last level. For example, to a mask on the third level, the part that fills the black for deletion needs to be reversed by the second layer of the layer selection. Analogy You can also select a selection and click the mask directly in the layers panel to add the selection directly.

Shaping the effect of paper art

Using the PS layer style to simulate the style of the paper is not difficult, at this time, you can take the first layer to start "move knife."

Step 08

When you cut the paper, because the paper has a certain thickness, it will be trimmed at the edge of a relatively prominent sideline, the effect of "bevel and embossed" layer style can be done. Although seemingly obscure details, it can also make the effect more realistic.

Add the "inner Shadow" layer style and adjust the parameters to where you feel fit. I also added a little bit of noise to make the effect closer to the real paper feel.

Step 09

Copy layer styles from the first layer to the other layers in turn.

Step 10

The effect of paper art to this point is completed, then you can continue to add some style, as the finishing touches of the part. For example, I add bubbles and a branch here. Make them look like a little trim placed on top. These decorations also make the effect of the paper art. You can do this by adding a layer style for projection and bevel and emboss.

Step 11

According to the final effect to adjust the color, such as I think the middle of the color is a bit too dim, so I can continue to adjust the overall color effect. After the completion of the effect is as follows.

Postscript

Paper art effect focus on "art" and not "paper", after practice you will find that the effect of paper is very easy to perform, but the art part still need to be more pondering.
