The eternal path of Architecture

2, quality

This is the most basic trait that exists in everything.

It may never be the same, because it always forms its own shape in special occasions.

It is calm in this place, but fierce in that place; it is time in this person, it is irrelevant in that person; it is bright for this house, it is dark for the house; it is gentle and quiet for the room; it is old for the room: In this family it is a hobby for a picnic. in other families, they dance or play card games. In other groups of people. it is completely different from family life.

It is a subtle freedom to get rid of internal conflicts.

The same system has this characteristic, while the split system lacks this characteristic.

If the system is loyal to its own internal power, it will have this characteristic. If it is not loyal to its internal power, it will not have this characteristic. When the system is in harmony, it has this characteristic, and when the system is in disorder, it lacks this characteristic.

This is not the case in the world of complex systems. Many people are not completely loyal to their internal nature, or are not completely "authentic ". In fact, for many people, striving to become a loyal person is the central issue of life. When you meet someone who is loyal to you, you immediately feel "more real" than others ". Therefore, at a complex human level, there is a boundary between systems that are "loyal to the White", such as "not to be real to yourself. Not all of us are loyal to our own nature, not all of us are real and complete.

The same is true for larger systems outside of us called our world. Not all parts of the world are faithful to themselves, not all of them are true and complete. In the world of physics, any natural system simply stops living, but in the world of complex systems, it is not that simple.
The subtle and complex freedom of this internal contradiction is the true characteristic of the survival of things. In the world of storage, each system can be more or less real, more or less loyal to itself.
By following the principles that apply, the system cannot be more loyal to itself. But it is possible to define a process, tell you how to make the system more loyal to yourself, and tell you what to do based on what it is.
This integrity or lack of integrity is the basic character of everything. Whether it is in a poem, in a person, in a crowded building, or in a jungle, in a city, everything is derived from it. It embodies everything.

However, this feature cannot be named.

The fact that this feature cannot be named does not mean that it is ambiguous. It cannot be named because it is accurate. Words cannot be conveyed because they are more accurate than words. Each word you choose to express itself has vague edges and extensions, thus blurring the basic meaning of traits.

4. Event Mode

If I think about my life honestly, I see that it is dominated by a small number of event patterns that I participate in again and again. Lying in bed, taking a bath, eating breakfast in the kitchen, writing in the study, taking a walk in the garden, preparing meals in the office with my friends, watching movies, taking the family to the restaurant for dinner, enjoy a drink at a friend's house, drive in the driveway, and go to bed again. No more.

There are not several event modes in the way of life of any person. Maybe you just need to look at your own life and you will find the same situation. I was surprised to see that I only have several event modes. I don't want more modes, but when I see that they are so few, I began to understand how little of these patterns have a huge impact on my life and my ability to live. If these models are good for me, I will be able to live happily. On the contrary, I cannot live happily.

5. Space Mode

Think about the corridor of the church. It is parallel and close to the Central Hall. There are pillars in the Central Hall, and things move toward. Like the Church itself, there are pillars on the internal walls, and there are windows on the outside. At first glance, these relationships are "redundant" outside of the fact that the corridor exists. When we take a closer look, we do not have to worry about these relationships. They are necessary and actually part of the elements. For example, we realized that if the corridor does not walk in the Central Hall and is not close to it, it is no more narrow than it. If it does not share a pillar with the Central Hall and does not go from east to west, it is not a corridor at all. It will only be a freely floating rectangular space in a Gothic building, and it will become the relationship between it and the central temple and other elements around it. When we look at it more closely, we realize that such an opinion is still not accurate, because not only is it correct to add a link to the element, but the element itself is actually a relational model.

Once we realize that what we want to be "an element" is actually the relationship between it and other things around us, we will enter a second deeper understanding. The so-called elements are just myth,

In fact, elements are not simply placed in the relational model, but completely a relational model, rather than others. In short, the corridor that needs to be defined by the relationship between the central temple and the east window itself is a mode of many relations. It is a long, wide, and edge column of the central temple, the relationship between the outer border window and so on. Finally, it seems that things like elements have ended, and then left a network of relationships. This network is actually something that is already repeated. It gives buildings or cities a structure. In short, we can completely forget the concept that houses are composed of elements, and acknowledge the fact that all these so-called elements are just a tag of truly repetitive Relationship patterns. As a whole, the fast lane is not repeated, but the fact that it is stored at a certain interval to connect the fast lane with the dry road is indeed repeated. There is a certain repetitive relationship between the main and three-dimensional intersections of a fast lane. However, the three-dimensional crossover itself is not repeated, and each crossover is different, what is repeated is that each lane forms a continuous curve from bend to straight-there is a repetitive relationship between its curvature and the tangent. Again, the lanes in this relationship model are not repeated. What we call lanes itself is also a smaller so-called factor-the road edge, the surface, the formation of the relationship between the edge of the line and so on, although their functions are temporarily used as a factor, to make these relationships clear, they disappear when we carefully analyze them.

Each of these patterns is a morphological rule that establishes a series of relationships in space.
This pattern can always be expressed in the same way:
X → R (A, B ,??), That is:
In the X-type Association, Part A, B ,?? Related to the relational volume R.
For example:
In an Orthodox church-→ the two sides of the central temple are parallel to its lateral Temple.
Or
The intersection of the Fast Lane and the trunk road -- → the conversion ramp adopts a form similar to that of Alfalfa leaves.
Each rule or pattern itself is also a relational pattern in other laws, and this pattern itself is a relational pattern.
Each pattern is obviously made up of something smaller and seemingly local. Of course, when we look into it in depth, we see that these obvious local patterns are also.
For example, we call it the door mode. This mode is the relationship between the door frame, hinge, and door fan. These parts are made up of smaller parts in sequence: column, horizontal block, half-end, and wire foot: the door is composed of a pin, a horizontal block, and a plate. The hinge is composed of a leaf and a nail. What we call local objects is actually a pattern. The shape, color, and exact size of each part can be ever-changing, but they never change the relationship between each other.

Patterns are not only links, but also links between many patterns on the other layer. These smaller patterns are more or less woven together, until the end, we can see that the world is totally composed of all these woven and chained non-material models.

Among all these, the most prominent is the small number of models that make up a building or city. We can imagine that a building has one thousand different models or tens of thousands of models in a city. But in fact, a building is basically limited by dozens of models, in addition, a huge city like London or Paris is limited by hundreds of models at most.

In short, the model has great strength and depth. They have the ability to create almost infinite changes. They are so deep and so universal that they can be combined in thousands of different ways, that is, when we walk in Paris, we are mostly overwhelmed by this change. The fact that there are some deep patterns that remain unchanged, hidden from great changes, has produced great changes.
In this sense, the model may be deeper and more powerful than the discussions that have been clarified. A part of the model can produce a huge, almost countless changes, and a complex and changing building is actually produced by a few models.

They are the atoms of the man-made world.

In chemistry, we know that the world is made up of 92 elements or atoms for all its complexity. This is a special fact that makes chemistry beginners stunned. The concept of repeated atomic changes is far different from the small billiards we once thought about, we know that they are the transformations of particles and waves-and even the most basic particles-the neutron itself is "fluctuating" in the universe, not "things ". However, the views of all these changes do not change the fact that, on the scale of the emergence of atoms, they appear as a uniform and repetitive whole. Even this huge change occurs in physics. One day we will realize that these so-called atoms are only fluctuating in deeper fields, the fact that there is something that corresponds to something we once called an atom will remain. For this reason, we now realize that on a larger scale of cities and buildings, the world is also composed of certain basic Atoms, each place is composed of hundreds of patterns-all of its astonishing complexity ultimately comes from the combination of these few patterns.

6. Dynamic Mode

Of course, stress and conflict are part of the normal health of life.
During the day, we constantly encounter conflicts or problems: every time the body enters the "stress" state, we mobilize ourselves to cope with conflicts and resolve conflicts.
This effect is physiological. In our bodies, there is a special physiological mechanism for generating stress. Among us, it has produced a highly mobilized state of preparation, which we have an excessive amount of adrenaline, a lot of vigilance, fast heartbeat, and high muscle elasticity, there is a lot of blood flowing to the brain and a lot of mental vigilance. This high degree of vigilance is when we encounter difficulties or conflicts and any situation that we must reflect and solve a problem, is there a challenge ?? And so on.
Under normal conditions, when we solve the problem, deal with the threat, and clear the conflict, the stress disappears and everything returns to normal. In this normal sense, stress and conflict are part of the normal health of everyday life. If an organism can only exist in environments with no conflicts or challenges at all, then it will decline and die.

However, the pattern that hinders us from resolving conflicts almost always puts us in a state of stress.
Because if we live in the separation of work and family life, or we violate the courtyard, or the window is just a world of holes, we will always experience these internal conflicts without stopping. We live in a world formed and constructed in this way, and will not overcome stress, solve problems, or get rid of conflicts in any way. In this world, conflicts will not disappear. They coexist with us, which makes us worried and nervous. The building of stress, no matter how secondary, always coexist with us. We have always lived in a state of high vigilance, high stress, and high adrenaline. Then the stress is no longer functional. It has become a huge burden on the system. The organic energy that enters the stress state has been partially "used" because they are always in this state and our ability to respond to new problems, dangers, and conflicts has declined, because the organism is constantly consumed by the continuous stress state.

Therefore, the "bad" model-ineffective windows, dead courtyards, poorly positioned workplaces, constantly exert force on us, damage us, and influence us. Indeed, in this way, every bad pattern in our environment constantly damages us, weaken us, reduce our ability to cope with new challenges, and weaken our ability to live, helping us to die;

On the other hand, the corresponding "good" pattern helps us to become active when they form the correct terrain, because they allow us to ease conflicts. When we encounter them, we always stay fresh to face new experiences and problems. We are constantly updating and increasing our vitality.

Therefore, it is clear that many models play a specific and objective role in determining the extent to which we call anger in any given place.

In an appropriate Association, this pattern is created again and then created itself. Once the wind blows across the sand, it creates and creates itself. Its benefits come from the fact that it is actually internal, rather than from the specific target consciousness. The same situation occurs in plants, wind and animal perfectly balanced gardens.

For example, imagine the corner of the orchard, the sun warms the earth, the melons and fruits grow, the bees send the pollen to the apple flowers, the worms bring the air to the soil, the apple leaves make the soil fertile ?? This pattern repeats thousands or hundreds of times in thousands of gardens, and is always a source of life.

However, the life of a pattern does not depend on what it does for us. It relies entirely on one process to help us continue another process, the entire system of the force and Process maintains the self-sustaining harmony without generating the excess force that breaks down.

In short, these models are dynamic and they are stable.

Compare the valley eroded in Chapter 1 with these patterns. The valley is unstable. It destroys itself. Its own activities gradually destroy itself. These patterns have the activity that helps you maintain your own activity.
You may want to know how cancer is. Cancer is stable and self-maintained, which is true in a "small scope. But it only maintains itself. Because, in order to keep itself, it must ultimately destroy the specific organism around it and its survival, and ultimately destroy itself by helping to damage its environment.
Although nothing is completely stable, this is right, and everything will eventually change, there is still a big difference. In the long run, live models are self-maintained because they do not do anything that damages their direct environment. In the short term, they do not destroy anything intense about themselves. They are angry to the extent possible because they are so coordinated that they are self-active through their internal structure, self-support, and self-maintenance.

In short, a model is angry when it allows its own internal force to be self-relaxed.

In our own lives, when we are the most nervous, happy, and focused, we have this unsung character.
When we allow the forces we experience to freely act and pass each other among us, when we allow our forces to get rid of those conflicts that are opposed to us, an unknown character will appear.

7. Combination of dynamic models

You will say-this, people can adapt. But in the adaptation process, they destroyed some of their own parts. We are good at adapting, but we will also be able to adapt to the extent that we destroy ourselves. The adaptation process comes at a cost. For example, a child can turn to reading to adapt. The desire to play in the street is now a concession to danger and mother. But now the children have lost their desire to play around. He adapted, but he was forced to do so to make his life poorer and less complete.

Each mode helps maintain other modes. Individual configurations in any mode require other modes to keep themselves angry.
For example, a window is stable and angry, but when many other matching merging modes are used to support it, for example: the window sill solves the problem of vision and the relationship with the ground. The vertical hinge window solves the problem of air entry, allowing people to explore and breathe the air outside; the small pane glass gives the window a strong connection between the interior and exterior.

8. Traits

The most important thing that arises is that each part of them is unique at each level. Patterns that control a part of the world are simple, but when they interact, they create a slightly different structure in each place. This occurs because there are no identical conditions on the earth. Every tiny difference makes it different from the conditions faced by other models.
This is a natural feature.

This is a natural feature. But if it is not made by its understanding of moving toward death, its mobility, adequacy, and irregularities will not be real. No matter how much the person who designs the building can understand the rules and the irregular pace, as long as he creates the building with the idea that the building must retain, the building will not make sense. If you want to keep a building, you will try to use durable materials that will last forever. You will try to make sure that this creation can maintain the status quo forever. The canvas must not be considered because it is to be replaced. The tiles must be hard and not cracked, so that they cannot be moved, and the seeds will not sprout and make the paving split; the Chair must be made of materials that will never wear or fade. Trees must look beautiful, but they cannot be fruitful, because falling down will hurt people. But in order to reach the nameless qualities, the building must at least be partly caused by the worn-out materials. Pine bricks and tiles, loose plaster, powder layer peeling off, a little fading windblown canvas, drop the broken fruits of the people who walk on the road, grow in the grass between the stone seams, A repaired old chair that has been painted to increase comfort, none of which will happen in the everlasting and lasting world.

Without the existence of death and awareness of death, natural features cannot appear. As long as human imagination distort the natural characteristics, it is because they do not fully accept the nature of things. As long as people do not fully accept the nature of things, they will distort nature by exaggerating the differences or exaggerating the same. They eventually do this to escape the ideas and facts of death. The final situation is that to achieve this, to make a thing have natural characteristics and be loyal to all of its power, you must take yourself away and let it go, eliminate your self-imagined intervention-all of this requires us to realize that everything is short-lived and is passing.

Of course, nature is always short. Trees, rivers, and buzzing insects-they are short-lived and they will all pass. However, we are never sad about the existence of these things. No matter how short they are, they make us feel happy and happy.
But when we start to create nature in the world around us and succeed, we cannot escape the fact that we all want to die. In human beings, this material is always sad when it is reached. We can even say that a natural place that strives to create this kind of character will not be authentic, unless we feel that there is a slight lingering sorrow, because while enjoying it, we know that it will become a thing of the past.

9. Flowers and Seeds

That is, when the force of the process replaces the hard-to-understand intention of the author, it becomes beautiful. The author relaxed his willingness to take over the process. Similarly, any angry thing is only used as a force to take over the process of subjective creation.
The final result can be obtained.

In our time, we have gradually regarded art as a "creation" in the minds of creators ". In addition, we gradually regard buildings and even cities as completely imagined and designed "creations ". Generating such a whole seems to be an immortal achievement: it requires the Creator to give something complete without thinking; it is a daunting task; it makes people have to be awe-inspiring; we understand how difficult it is; we may be timid, unless we have a lot of power on ourselves
Hold; we fear it. All of these interpret the work of creation or design as a huge task, and a large thing suddenly happens overnight. Its internal activities cannot be interpreted, and its subject is completely dependent on the Creator's self.

An unknown character cannot be created like this.

Instead, imagine a simple system of rules that are not complicated and patiently applied until they gradually form something. Things can be gradually formed and built immediately, or successively-but they are basically formed by a more complex process than the Pisa-Moya man-made canoe. There is no need to grasp the unspeakable creative process here: only the craftsman's patience is required to cut it down slowly. Mastering production is not an unpredictable self-depth, but a simple grasp of the process steps, but a limitation of these steps.

The same situation applies to a life organism. An organism cannot be created. It cannot be imagined through a subjective creative activity and then constructed based on the blueprint of the Creator. It is too complicated and too subtle to be born from the flash of the Creator's soul.
It has hundreds of millions of cells, each perfectly adapting to its condition-and this happens only because the organism is not made, but by a process that permits them to adapt step by step over time. The process of producing organisms-only so. No life can be produced in other ways. If you want to get a real flower, you will not use tweezers to produce one cell, but from
Raise it in the seeds. Suppose you have created a flower-a new flower. What will you do? Of course, you won't try to make it with tweezers, one cell sticking to one cell. You know, any attempt to directly make such a complicated and exquisite thing will be useless. Only plastic flowers are made directly from one slice. If you want to make a true flower, there is only one way-you must create a seed for it to grow it.

This is determined by a simple scientific proposition: the great complexity of an organic system as the foundation of life cannot be directly created as above, and it can only be indirectly produced. A large number of facts affirmed this proposition. For example, a flower contains billions of cells, each of which is different. Obviously, no construction process directly produces this complexity. Only the non-direct growth processes of the Self-proliferation of the order can such a process produce this biological complexity.

Unless each part is autonomous and can adapt to the local conditions in the whole, this will not happen. Like all forms of organic integrity, this is basically dependent on the degree of adaptation of each part of the whole. In a system that is close to natural features, each part must adapt to almost infinite precision, which requires that the adaptation process always runs through the entire system. This requires each part to be able to adapt to its own process at every level, no matter how small it is.

This will not happen unless each part is automatic.

Of course, self-creation of each part will be chaotic if it is self-developed. These parts do not form a larger whole, unless the individual adaptation of each part is under a deeper rule, this rule ensures that the local process will not only make the local actually adapt to its own process, but also form a larger whole. What makes flowers a whole while making all of its cells automatically adapt is the genetic code, which controls the adaptation process of a single part and makes it a whole. Different cells can coordinate activities because each of them contains the same genetic code. Each part (cell) adapts freely to its own process, and is assisted by the genetic code that controls its growth. At the same time, this password also contains such features, that is, it ensures that a single part of the slow adaptation is not only unordered and individual, in addition, each part simultaneously helps to generate the larger parts, systems, and modes required by the whole.

10. Our Model language

These larger models generate the urban structure. If a person who builds a single house follows these larger models step by step and uses the layout and placement of his house to do what he can to help generate these larger models, then the city gradually obtains its structure from the gradual accumulation of their individual activities.

12. Language creativity

There are hundreds of people who have built it, and each person is working on one part of the whole. His work has often gone through several generations. In any period, there is usually a master who guides the whole design, but all people have the same whole language. Everyone completes each part in a way that is generally the same but slightly different. The master doesn't need to use detail design to constrain those builders, because the builders themselves know enough common language, make the details correctly from their own perspective.

However, the momentum and beauty of the magnificent cathedral mainly come from the languages shared by the masters and Their builders. The language is so coherent that anyone who understands the language well and devote themselves to the construction of a single building will work slowly and step by step to shape all the people in their common language, is able to create a great work of art

All the great buildings in history were built in languages like this. Chatel, ahaba, kairong mosque, Japanese residence, and burranelski vault; because of the incorrect architectural view we have learned, we imagine a great architect using some lead
Pen markers work hard on drawing boards and create these buildings. As a matter of fact, chartel, like a simple farm house, is constructed by a group of people living in a common language and naturally immersed in it. It is not produced by "design" on the drawing board.

You will be surprised-if the rule is so easy to express, what makes a builder great?

There is indeed an answer. Although the rules are simple, stick to these rules when you have 20 or 50 rules in your mind, instead of letting them go, this requires an extremely unbearable focus. It is easy-but it is very difficult to make the room have light on both sides while doing other things we are trying to do. There is no light at one end of the room, but it is not the case. Stick to and abide by all the important rules and do not let them go freely in your mind. This may indeed require extraordinary perseverance.

Of course, the simplicity of these Rules does not mean that they are easy to observe and create. Just like a great artist who looks very carefully at the difference. The formation of these simple rules indeed requires a great amount of observation-great depth, great focus

13. Language breakdown

However, in contrast, in the early industrial society we recently experienced, Pattern Language died. It determines how to build a city. The mode language becomes specialized and private, and cannot be widely used.

Roads are built by road engineers, buildings are built by architects, parks are built by planners, hospitals are built by hospital consultants, schools are built by educational experts, gardens are built by garden workers, and houses are built by developers. It is hard for people in cities to know any language these experts use. If they want to find out what these languages contain, they cannot because it is considered professional knowledge. Professionals guard their language to make themselves indispensable. Even in any profession, professional guard prevents people from using their patterns and languages together. Architects guard their secrets like chefs, so that they can continue selling a unique style.

Such a language starts from specialization and avoids ordinary people. Then, in the profession, the language becomes private, hiding and separating from each other.

If we need a deep and powerful language, we can only find it when many people are still using the same language and constantly explore it.

This can only happen when the language is shared.

14. Shared Mode

To discover a dynamic pattern, we must start with observation. Discovering a dynamic pattern is no different from discovering anything esoteric. It is a slow, well-thought-out process in which we seek to discover something hidden, and we realize that we are generally wrong at first, we can only slowly approach an appropriate form of elaboration.

Occasionally, we do not start with a specific observation, but use abstract arguments to establish a theory.

Of course, pattern discovery is not always historical. Some examples I have provided may seem to find that the pattern is the only method from observation. This means that it is impossible to find a pattern that has not yet existed in the world, and thus it means a closed, horrible conservative: because it will never find a pattern that has not yet existed. The actual situation is completely different. A pattern is a discovery of the links, forces, and spatial relationships under absolute control. In this sense, it is a discovery. This discovery can be purely at the theoretical level.
Achieve

In all these cases, no matter what method is used, the pattern is an attempt to discover a constant feature. These features are distinguished from the bad ones by a special force system. The pattern tries to grasp the essence of the relational field that shares all possible solutions to the problem raised in the proposed Association. It is the theory behind the ever-changing form of solving the problem. For
There are many special solutions for given problems, but it is possible to find a feature shared by all these solutions. This is what a model needs to do.

Many people say that they do not like to "Solve the Problem". This is a serious misunderstanding. Of course, there are thousands, thousands, and infinite solutions to any given problem. In a single statement, we naturally cannot grasp the details of all these solutions. In order to find a new solution to a problem that is suitable for its special situation, it is up to the creative imagination of the designer.

However, when it is properly expressed, a pattern limits a definite field, which captures all possible solutions to a given problem within the scope of the associated statement. It is difficult to find or find such a field. It is at least as difficult as finding something in theoretical physics.

My experience shows that many people find it difficult to clarify their design ideas. They want to express their ideas in non-strict, general terms, you do not want to express it in a precise mode. The most important thing is that they do not want to define the abstract relationship between the space parts of their tables. I also found that people are not good at doing this. It is really difficult to do this.

In short, whether this elaboration is as correct or incorrect as it should be, the pattern can be shared, precisely because it is controversial and tentative. In fact, it can be argued, which is the key to its sharing.

15. True Pattern

The difficulty is that we do not have a reliable way to understand exactly what is the force in a situation

In short, the scientific accuracy of the model can only come from direct comments that people feel, rather than from arguments or discussions.

If the force does not exist, it will be better and it will be almost irresponsible. The force obviously exists, and the design based on this self-speaking idea is to fail.

It is difficult to give up the prejudice of what things must be and understand what they are. For example, one day, the boy scouts broadcast that when your child is sitting in the corner of the street with other children, this is unhealthy-give them the opportunity to do what they desire-for long-distance travel, phishing, and swimming. This statement is expressed with the enthusiasm of religion. Of course, it is a deep attempt by the moral believers of the Qing Dynasty to add what the children should like to what the children actually like. Naturally, a real boy sometimes wants to swim, but sometimes wants to go out to the street and turn around with his friends, and sometimes wants to find a girl. People who believe that these pursuits are unhealthy will never see the power that actually plays a role in their children-or use any practical language. How can such a person realize his/her domicile? This indicates that a teenager needs to be away from his/her parents in order to cultivate his/her independence, this particularly noticed the reality that teenagers need to gather in public spaces and leave their homes.

A person who believes in bucket removal does not close his eyes to the reality of people's life. A person who is sure that the city's dilapidated lower-level areas must be cleared does not care about the real force that plays a role in Wandering Life, because he cannot accept the existence of wandering. A person who is confident that the Office must be "flexible" does not care about the real force of people who want to work in groups.

Any prejudice about how things must always interfere with your real feelings, and it makes you unable to see what actually happens-it always hinders you from making the environment active. It will prevent you from creating new models, or turning a blind eye to new models-especially, it will prevent you from using those models properly to create a complete environment.

People usually say that the choice of patterns depends on what you think is important. One thinks that a high-rise building is the best, the other prefers a low-rise building; the other prefers a lot of car space because he prefers fast driving; the other prefers to emphasize that space is left for the Walker because he does not like driving. When we try to solve a dispute like this, we are taken back to the basic purpose of People's Life: to return to their basic goals or values. However, people's values are inconsistent. Therefore, such arguments still hold us on the standpoint that the model seems to be dependent only on opinions. From this point of view, you 'd better say that a certain model will help or will not help to meet certain goals or values. In other words, some forces are "good" and others are bad.

However, if a model is a reality, it will not judge the legitimacy of the force in this situation.

Because the pattern seems non-ethical, and does not judge individual opinions, goals, or values, the pattern goes up to another level of morality. The result is to allow things to get angry-which is better than the success of any human value system

Then it becomes a natural part. When we see the ripple pattern in the pool, we know that this pattern is completely the same existing force.
Balanced: there is no confusion. Finally, when we successfully observe an artificial pattern that is no longer blurred by opinions and images, we discover the correct and permanent natural fragments, just like the ripple on the surface of the pool.

16. Language Structure

Therefore, the real work of any design process is to organize the language, and then you can produce a special design. You must first form a language, because the structure and Association of the language determine the design. Individual buildings you build will be vibrant or inactive Based on the depth and integrity of the language you use. Of course, once you form a language, this language is universal. It has the ability to generate a vibrant building. It can be used thousands or even hundreds of energetic buildings.

17. Evolution of the city's Common Language

A dynamic language must be continuously recreated in the hearts of everyone. Even a person's ordinary language (English, French, or any other language) is created by him-not learned. When a child "learns" language from his parents or people around him, he does not learn all the rules in their language-because he cannot see or hear the rules. He only heard the sentences they said. What he does is to create a system for himself. The rule is completely the first time that he creates her. He constantly changes these rules until they are used, he can generate a language similar to the language he heard. At this stage, we said that he "mastered" the language.
Of course, his rules are similar to his parents, because they must generate similar sentences in an approximate way, but in fact, his "mastered" language is a rule system, it was entirely created by him in his mind. What's more, does he modify, improve, and deepen his language throughout his life ?? He always creates and improves the rules he has invented.

The same is true for the mode language. You have a natural ability to create a model language. But the exact content-the special situation of patterns in your language-is up to you and you must create them by yourself.

Moreover, once people use a language in this way, the language begins to evolve automatically. Once there is a mode library, tens of millions of people extract the modes from the library, use them, exchange them, and replace them, then surely this language will naturally develop. As good models become more widely used and bad models die out, the model library will gradually include more and better models-in this sense, we can say, A common language is developing and getting better and better. Although we also realize that everyone will always have their own language, a form of common language-a unique way

When people exchange views on the environment and the exchange mode, the entire storage mode in the mode Library will continue to change. Some modes are completely lost, some become scarce, some are complicated, and some new modes enter the mode library. There is a criterion for determining whether a pattern is good or bad. When people see them, They imitate good patterns instead of bad ones. This means that the good model will become more common, and the bad model will be gradually eliminated.

18. Language Development

Now we will begin to look at how a city's rich and complex order can grow from thousands of creative activities. Once we have a common model language in our city, we will all be able to make our streets and buildings vibrant through our extraordinary activities. Language, like a seed, is a system of occurrence. It gives us millions of small activities to form the overall strength.

In this constant change, people in the city are constantly building, rebuilding, demolition, maintenance, modification, change, and building again.

Pattern Language is a tool that relies on its city to maintain its structure and make itself rich and angry. It gradually produces these patterns day by day, as a result, this place continues to maintain its vitality through the gradual process of creation and destruction. It is not only the ultimate result of this angry process, but also the continuous momentum itself. This process has no result: An angry building or city is the constant momentum, which is dominated by its language and creates itself forever.

We can see the tremendous power of a public language. The process of life is marked by the continuous creation of parts. In an organism, cells collaborate to form an organ and act as the whole body. In a society, the individual actions of people form customs and a larger whole. In cities, the Model language serves as the source of life, mainly because it helps
Generate a whole in mutual collaboration

19. Spatial Differentiation

In this process, every other construction activity is a process in which space can be divided. It is not a process of combining the pre-formed parts to produce an overall addition, but a gradual process, just like the development of the fetus, the whole prevails over the part, in addition, various parts are developed by differentiation.

-Once you discover the proper sequence, the power of designing coherent things is almost automatically generated, and you will be able to make a wonderful and complete design without any difficulty. If the order is correctly arranged, you can create a wonderful whole, and you almost don't have to work hard, because it naturally does this in your mind. However, if the order is incorrectly arranged-if the order itself is inconsistent or the mode is incomplete-no effort will produce a complete design.

In nature, a thing is always born and developed as a whole. A baby is a whole from the first day of pregnancy. Every day is the whole of a fetus until it is born. It is not an order in which parts are added up, but an overall scale, curl, and differentiation.

-A wave is formed as a whole. It is part of a wave system, and when it begins to rise, collide, and die-a reasonably formed dynamic whole. A mountain is formed as a whole: the Earth's shell bulge forms a mountain. When the mountain grows up, each rock and every sand are complete. Nothing has been completed. after thousands of years, the status we see today

It is concluded that when a language is used properly, it allows people who use it to make the place a natural part. The natural feature is not something that is added to an excellent design. It directly comes from the language order. When the order of patterns in the language is correct, the expansion process allows the design to be smoothly presented as if it were an open flower. Now we are going to find out the details of this expansion process.

21. Building Formation

A complete building with natural characteristics will, in the order of these individual patterns, form itself as simply as a sentence in your mind.

The entire design has been on and off for a week. As shown in the notes, I carefully considered each group of modes. Sometimes it takes me an hour to think about a pattern. In this case, I have not been thinking about how to do these models for an hour. I have done a variety of other things, like driving, enjoying music, eating apples, Planting Garden and so on, waiting for the pattern itself to form a shape suitable for this special venue and problem in my mind. In many cases, I walked into the design and asked me what I would see when I was trying to build a model, and gained a lot of key insights. Usually the answer appears immediately. But it only appears when I am there and can touch and smell the things around me.

I never drew a building diagram. The design is completely completed in my mind. You can accept a whole only in the flow of your soul. With the development of the design, the new model takes effect according to the language order. With the emergence of the new model, the whole design has to be changed and re-built in your mind. Each new pattern in the sequence changes the whole produced by the previous pattern. It reschedules it and reassembles it. This happens only when the design is completely mobile, and cannot happen even in the medium with the smallest resistance to changes. A painting, or even a rough sketch, is very rigid-when the design is still in the embryonic state, it is embodied much beyond the details of the design itself. In fact, all the external intermediaries I know-sand, dirt, and pasters-are too hard in the same sense on the floor. The only intermediary that truly flows is the mind. When a new model enters, it allows design growth and change. The expression there is a flow: it is an image that only contains the essence of the image-it can be changed almost naturally under the conversion of new patterns and ideas. In the intermediary of the mind, each new model almost changes the entire design without any special impact.

Of course, this small lab building is far from the beauty and simplicity of housing as we have seen in this chapter. Before we can do that, we need to perform many years of experiments in this way. This building is too relaxed, too informal, and the construction mode that controls its details is not coordinated and organized. However, this building is at least the beginning of a kind of spirit that is at least close to this path, and a hint of what is being touched. Anyone can use a language to design a building in this way.

This is like English. When I speak English, sentences are formed as quickly as I say them. The same is true for model languages.

22. Formation of building groups

In the same way, several groups of people can imagine their large public buildings on the spot by following a common mode language, as if they had a total of hearts.

23. Construction Process

-Once the architecture is conceived like this, they can be directly produced from some simple marks made on the ground-still in the same language, but directly, no construction drawing

Therefore, the most fundamental thing is that the builder uses only a rough graph to build a detailed model based on the process given in the Model language.

This is quite common in nature. The process of spider woven networks is standardized. However, the created parts are different. Each network is wonderful and unique and fully adapted to its situation. It is created by a standard process: And this process exists. It is very simple. In this simple process, different situations interact with each other in an infinite way to create different special networks. This is the process I will describe now. A single process is standardized and very simple. But the actual results are infinite changes-they are the forms of infinite changes in the pattern of process limitation.

Now the shelf in the room is ready, and you can see exactly where it should be open. By simulating them with fragmented rough wood, you can correct them and adjust them until they create a full internal/external relationship and give the appropriate scenery and the appropriate light in the appropriate place, proper windowsill height, proper door height, and proper split of Large Opening into smaller opening

There are not only roughly the same pile, column room, window, entrance, sliding window, roof and terrace. These are repeated large patterns. It also includes wired feet, face tiles, drop-sink, gutter, slab, brick, side, door beams, decoration, slab, square, corner stone, column caps, column blocks, rings, and pillars., pillar details, dingtalk, handle, and gasket, they are placed in a sparse place where they should be and visible, so that the building is completed by these smallest structures and formed by their almost regular irregular pace.

This building, like countless buildings in the traditional society, has the simplicity of pencil writing. In a few minutes, the speed writing captured the essence and feelings of the whole-the women who ran the horse and bent-because part of it was free at the overall pace.

24. trimming Process

Then, some of the building actions, each of which is used to trim and expand the results of previous actions, will slowly generate a larger and more complex whole than any single action can produce.

Every building is an attempt to maintain its complete form at the beginning of construction. But our predictions are always wrong. People use buildings in different ways than they originally imagined. The larger the building, the more obvious it is. The design process, in the eyes of the soul or on the base, is to simulate the feelings and events that will appear in the real building in advance and create a form corresponding to these events.
However, predictions, after all, are speculation that the real events there are at least somewhat different. The larger the building, the greater the inaccuracy of predictions. Therefore, it is necessary to change the building at any time based on the actual events there

Therefore, the richness and uniqueness of this small append are achieved in the simplest and most practical way. It is because you pay attention to the defects of the original buildings and focus on repairing them. Each construction behavior splits part of the space, and further construction behavior is required to further split the space to make it more complete.

This is the essence of the natural means of action: all these are produced by the process of continuous differentiation, and each process helps fill gaps in the whole and fix gaps. When something is built for the first time, there is often a gap between parts that is not the whole.

In this new sense, when we trim a certain East and West, we mean that we are converting it, and the new whole will be born. It is true that the whole being trimmed will become another whole after being trimmed. In this sense, the concept of refinement is creative, dynamic, and open. It assumes that we are constantly guided to the creation of a new whole by paying attention to existing defects and striving to fix them. Every action helps to fix a larger and longer overall, which is still correct, but not just to fix it-it also modifies and changes it, place it above the path to become something new.

25. Slow City Appearance

For a period of time, people think that the city must be planned or blueprint by the planners. It is said that if the city order is not like this, the city will not be in order. As a result, people have kept this message in spite of the fact that all the beautiful cities and villages built by traditional society do not have a general plan, and they have given themselves up on freedom.

However, like biology, it is now clear that the structure of a city can be composed of the interactions of individual building behaviors in a common language, which is deeper and more complex than a blueprint or general diagram.

The final shape of any particular oak tree is unpredictable. When the oak tree grows, there is no blueprint and no general chart tells the branches to grow in the four directions. We know in general that it will have an overview of oak because it grows under the guidance of Oak's pattern language (its genetic code. However, its details cannot be predicted, because each small step is formed by the interaction of the language with the foreign power and conditions-Rain, wind, sunlight, soil composition, other trees and trees, and the thickness of the leaves on the branches of the trees..

A complete city, like an oak tree, must be unpredictable. The details cannot be known in advance. We may know the city in which the Model language will be used together. But it is impossible to predict its detail plane: it cannot make it grow on a certain plane. It must be unpredictable. Therefore, individual construction activities can freely adapt to all the forces they encounter in the region.

People in a city may know that there will be a main pedestrian street, so there is a pattern to tell them. But they don't know where the main pedestrian street will be, until it already exists there

It is more complex than any other order. It cannot be produced by decision making and cannot be designed. It cannot predict on a plane. It is a living proof that thousands of people handle their own lives and make full use of their potential.

Finally, the city emerged.

26. Features of The superage

Because this same form of building everything will eventually emerge, and the eternal path of building is indeed an eternal path.
When you learn to make a building more and more angry, and thus more and more true to their unique nature, you will inevitably approach this eternal feature.
These are forms of discovery again and again when people are close to the center of the building. If building actions are increasingly controlled by a common language in a community, they will become closer and closer to creating and updating the subject of an eternal form that has been part of the building since its own society.

The eternal characteristics of a building are just as natural as those of rivers, trees, mountains, flames, and stars.
Every phenomenon has its own characteristics. Stars have their own characteristics. Oceans have their own characteristics. rivers have their own characteristics. Mountains have their own characteristics, including forests, flowers, insects, and all. And when a building is properly built and loyal to all the forces in it, they will always have their own specific characteristics. This is the feature of the eternal path creation.
It is a material embodiment of the nameless characteristics in cities and buildings.

27. Core of Tao

However, the path of eternity is not over until we leave the door behind, and it is completely unknown.

It is true that the features of this superage are ultimately irrelevant to language. The process of language and self-production only frees us from the natural basic order. They don't teach us anything. They just remind us that when we give up our ideas and strictly do what we do, what we already know and what we will find again and again

Naturally, it is the most common thing in the world. It is as common as cutting strawberries. One of the most exciting moments of my life is also one of the most common moments. I am a friend of mine in Denmark. We were preparing strawberries for tea. I noticed that the strawberries she cut were very thin, almost as paper. Of course, it takes longer than the usual time. I asked her why. She said that when you eat strawberries, the taste of strawberries comes from the exposed surface of your contact. The more the surface, the better the taste. The thinner I cut the strawberry, the more the surface. Her entire life is like this. It is so common that it is difficult to explain how deep it is. There is almost no unnecessary thing for animals, and everything to do is done. Living like that is the easiest thing in the world, but it is the hardest thing for a person who is full of imagination. At that time, I learned more than ten years of building.
