Added the ability to hide desktop icons in Windows XP all you have to do is click the desktop blank, select the Arrange Diagram command in the pop-up right-click menu, and then deselect the Show Desktop Icon command in the next cascading menu, and the system will automatically hide all desktop icons.
If the number of icons on your desktop is large, you can rearrange the diagram by clicking the right mouse button in the blank area of the desktop, selecting Arrange Diagram in the pop-up menu, and then clicking the diagram arrangement in the next Level menu. Use the Windows XP Desktop Cleanup feature to clean out icons that you don't use on your desktop. On the General tab of the Desktop Project dialog box above, if you select the "Run Desktop Cleanup Wizard every 60 days" check box, the system will automatically run a Desktop Cleanup wizard every 60 days to help you clean out the unused icons on your desktop. If you click the "Clean Desktop Now" button, the system immediately opens the Desktop Cleanup Wizard and moves the shortcut icon you don't use to a desktop folder called Unused Desktop shortcuts. The wizard does not move, change, and delete any programs, and if you want to move a diagram back to the desktop, you can restore it from the Desktop folder for unused desktop shortcuts
