The relationship between the comment attribute and the BOM in altiumdesinger

When altiumdesigner is used to draw a schematic diagram, the component generally has several important attributes, such as comment and value.

Previously, I have read the principle diagram drawn by other engineers, and I have been confused about the problem. When I draw the principle diagram, I usually write the parameters of the component in the comment attribute. For example, if a resistance value is 4.7 kb, enter 472 or 4.7 K in the comment attribute.

I was wondering, why didn't those engineers put the component parameters into the Value Attribute when there is a value attribute clearly? Isn't that more compliant?

Is it because of the laziness of engineers? Putting component parameters in the comment attribute will improve the efficiency. However, is it worth advocating that the component parameters do not conform to the specifications?

Today, I got the answer. The reason is that altiumdesigner has a powerful BOM table creation function, which is too weak!

Suppose that the component parameters are set according to the specifications, instead of filling the component parameters in the comment attribute, but in the Value Attribute. What is the result?

When you do not need to export a Bom, this method is relatively more compliant. However, once you need to export the BOM, you will get a messy Bom. The specific manifestation is that when altiumdesinger exports the BOM, it can only classify components by comment and footprint, rather than by value or other attributes, and divide the components with different value values into different columns for display.

For example, a PCB has one 472 resistance and two 332 resistance. The value Attributes of these three elements are the resistance values of each resistance, however, the comment attribute is consistent with "res", and the description attribute is consistent with "resistor ", the export BOM in alicloud designer will combine one 472 resistance and two 322 resistance, and the number of components will be displayed as three. This effect is not what we want. Mixing components with different parameter values is not conducive to the evaluation and arrangement of production needs. The effect we want is to use different parameter values, sort components by parameters.

The problems mentioned above are exactly what other engineers have encountered. During schematic design, the engineer fills in the component parameters in the comment attribute to facilitate BOM creation.

However, almost no one will tell the novice engineers the reason for this problem. This experience has led the cainiao to commit crimes again and again. After the cainiao solved the problem, will not tell people later.

Isn't the development of mankind promoted by recording history in words? So why don't electronic engineers record such experiences and tell more people? Because of the laziness and selfishness of electronic engineers, the cainiao later made the same mistakes again and again.
