In March 9, 2007, Chinabyte.com, a ten-year-old IT portal network, was extensively revised, the new ChinaByte home page integrates various information such as vertical navigation, Deep article reading, news, blogs, videos, forums, and so on, and fully attaches importance to the presentation of Web2.0 content, this completely subverts the current homogeneous layout of information websites.
Since its founding in 1997, Chinabyte has been focusing on original news reports in the IT field, recording the history of China's IT industry, and is also an active promoter of China's informatization construction. After a few months of research work, Chinabyte reorganized the information to meet the simple and elegant needs of the mid-and high-end users, and divided the information by channels such as "Internet and communication" horizontally, vertical news, news, and in-depth reports are classified, and the page information is greatly reduced, promoting the presentation of effective information, putting the essence of blogs and forums that are original to netizens and the news at the same important position fully reflects the idea of Web2.0 that mainstream online media are focusing on "voice of netizens.
The revision attracted a lot of attention in the industry, and some people found suspected of imitating some foreign information websites. In this regard, Bao Zheng, chief editor of Chinabyte, said: "For the Internet industry in China, the key to learning from and innovating is to determine whether the app is the best, whether the 'created' meets the potential needs of Chinese netizens." Bao Zheng further believes that "Chinese information websites, whether comprehensive or vertical, generally induce and mislead Chinese netizens in reading habits and lack a sense of responsibility for the audience ." For example, the presentation of online advertisements is very different from domestic and foreign advertisements. The advertisements that damage the reading performance will be resolutely put out in Chinabyte. Industry insiders believe that this version of ChinaByte is more concise and atmospheric, reflecting the determination and courage of a high-end professional network media. However, this method may have a negative impact on the access traffic of ChinaByte, whether it can be recognized by advertisers remains to be tested. It was revealed that the editorial department and sales department had a heated discussion during the revision process.
According to the survey, Chinabyte has made the most investment in original news manpower and financial resources in China. "This is the foundation of ChinaByte's website over the past decade, next, we will further enhance the influence and communication power of ChinaByte's original news. Considering the differences between online and print media, we also need to emphasize the 'Reading pleasure 'that conforms to the characteristics of the network ', for example, the change in writing articles and the combination with communities." Bao Zheng revealed.
A senior person in the industry believes that after the merger of ChinaByte in 2001 and Tianji Yesky, the two websites did not clearly differentiate their brand and website characteristics, this makes Tianji, which has many resource advantages, not fully converted into a sales advantage. ChinaByte's revision may be a precursor to Tianji's attempt to make the ChinaByte website and Tianji's other website, which must be located in the IT consumer group Yesky, clearly separate and operate independently.
