1 Understanding the target layer and the source layer

The target layer is the layer from which the feature is selected

The source layer is a layer in which the user uses the features in the layer to determine which features should be selected based on the spatial relationship of the layer to the target layer.

2 Learn about selecting a spatial relationship rule for the selected item

In the figure, the selected features are highlighted in cyan, which intersect with the red source features, touch, or are included in the red source features.

Intersect

Intersect returns features that overlap completely or partially with the source features. Here are some examples:

Return a feature within a distance

This operator creates a buffer using the buffer distance around the source feature, and returns all features that intersect the buffer area. For example, choose a city within 100 meters of a river or railroad.

Within the scope of other features

To be selected, the geometry of the target feature must fall within the geometry of the source feature. The selected features can have overlapping boundaries with the source features.

For example, with this operator, Montana can be selected even if Montana shares a border with the United States.

Completely within the range of other features

To be selected, all parts of the target feature must fall within the geometry of the source feature and cannot touch the boundaries of the source feature. For example, in a country's target layer, Dallas County is selected because it falls on the source side of Texas. This applies to all counties that do not fall on the Texas border.

This operator is the opposite of "fully contained." See below for more information. The source feature must be a polygon, or you want to apply a buffer around a point or line feature to use this operator.

Contains

To be selected, the geometry of the source feature (including its bounds) must fall within the geometry of the target feature. For example, a polygon representing the United States contains Texas, and even if the polygon shares a South border with Texas. This polygon feature will still be selected.

This is the opposite of the "within other features" operator.

Fully inclusive

To be selected, all parts of the target feature must fully contain the geometry of the source feature. In addition, the source features are not accessible to the boundaries of the target features or overlap the boundaries of the target features. For example, if the source feature is Kansas, the feature that represents the United States border can be selected because the feature completely contains Kansas and does not touch its boundaries. However, if the source feature is Texas, the feature representing the United States border will not be selected because Texas shares the border with the US border. This is the opposite of the "completely within the scope of other features" operator.

The target feature layer must be a polygon.

Centroid within the feature range

Use this operator to select a target feature if the geometric centroid of the target feature falls within the geometry of the source feature or falls on its boundary.

Features highlighted in Cyan are selected because their centroid is within a red feature.

Collinear with other features

With this method, if the source feature and the geometry of the target feature have at least two consecutive vertices that are common, then they are considered collinear.

The source and target features must be line features or polygon features.

Touch the boundaries of other features

If the intersection of the target feature's geometry and the source feature is not NULL, but the intersection of the targets is empty, the target feature is selected. This is the definition of the Clementini contact operator, so if the target feature touches (as defined by Clementini) The source feature, the target feature is selected.

The source and target features must be line features or polygon features.

The operator contains the Clementini operator, but it is extended. The following conditions are also supported: if the geometry of an inner or inner polygon that is completely contained in a polygon is collinear, a co-vertex, or a common endpoint with the boundary of the polygon, the inner or inner face is selected.

Same as other features

If the geometry of two features is strictly equal, then these two elements are considered identical. Feature types must be the same, for example, you can use this operator to compare two polygon layers, but a point layer will always return an empty selection set when compared to a polygon layer.

Intersect with other features ' outlines

For this operator, it requires that the source and target feature boundaries must have at least one edge, vertex, or endpoint, but not collinear.

The source and target features must be line features or polygon features.

Included (Clementini)

This operator results in the same operation as the include operator unless the source feature is completely on the boundary of the target feature and no part is within the target feature. In this particular case, the target feature is not selected using the Include (Clementini) operator, and the target feature is selected using the Include operator. The Clementini operation specifies that the boundary of the polygon is independent of the interior and exterior of the polygon.

Within the scope of other features (Clementini)

This operator results in the same operation as the "within other features" operator unless the target feature is completely on the boundary of the source feature and no part is within the source feature. In this case, the target feature will not be selected using the "Within the other features (Clementini)" operator, and the target feature will be selected using the "within the other features" operator. The Clementini operation specifies that the boundary of the polygon is independent of the interior and exterior of the polygon.
