Ensure high availability and performance of event delivery through WebSphere Process server and WebSphere JDBC adapter

High availability and performance play an important role in service-oriented architecture (SOA) integration solutions. A common solution is to use the Websphere®process server and the WebSphere JDBC Adapter to integrate the database server. Currently, when WebSphere process Server coordinates with the WebSphere JDBC Adapter, it is necessary to maintain high availability, check event status, and perform recovery operations during the delivery of events. At the same time, tuning event delivery performance in order to improve efficiency is also essential.

Brief introduction

High availability and performance play an increasingly important role in SOA integration solutions. WebSphere Process Server and WebSphere Adapter are two important products for implementing a successful SOA integration solution. They can often collaborate to implement integration of various enterprise applications, such as JDBC, SAP®, siebel®, and peoplesoft®. The WebSphere JDBC Adapter is one of many WebSphere Adapter that delivers high availability and performance through an SOA integration solution while helping customers build high-availability and performance business application environments.

Common scenes

Typically, customers run their business processes in the cluster environment of the WebSphere Process Server. The cluster environment provides the following benefits:

Work load Balancing

The processing power of the application

Application availability

Maintainability

Flexibility

For more information, see the appropriate IBM® Information center. In a clustered environment, you tend to have high availability and performance requirements. For example, this scenario is taken from the mobile industry. After performing an operation on the database (INSERT, update, or delete), the WebSphere JDBC Adapter Inbound service is triggered and the service sends an event to the BPEL component and initiates a "sendsmsprocess" BPEL process, as shown in Figure 1.

Figure 1. Send SMS scene

In Figure 1, WebSphere JDBC Adapter Inbound service can listen for and capture some changes to tables in the database, generate events, and send events to the BPEL service. The BPEL service then initiates a series of operations and completes the "sendsmsprocess" activity. In this process, it is important to ensure the high availability and performance of event delivery.

WebSphere Adapter and WebSphere JDBC Adapter

The WebSphere Adapter product provides a series of adapters that conform to the JCA 1.5 specification for communication with various enterprise information systems (EIS). Figure 2 shows the WebSphere Adapter series.
