If you are upgrading from Word 2003 to Word 2007, you may notice some changes to XML. On the one hand, you will not be able to start a new XML document from the XML document template. Because the XML document template is not included in Word 2007.
Instead, any document becomes an XML document. Simply select Office Button-Save as, and set the save type to Word XML document. Note the Word 2003 XML document option. It has additional options that are not available in the Word XML document option. We'll tell you later.
When you save in Word XML (Word 2007) format, if you want to work with federation, do so before saving, using the schema tool in the development tools ribbon, as discussed in the "Schema" section. You can also apply transformations when you first open an XML document, but since we are discussing creating a new XML document here, this is not optional, unless you save it and then open the file.
Once the schema is assembled, the XML Structure task pane is displayed. Click the element on the right to use these elements in the current document.
Click XML Options at the bottom of the task pane to access additional options. Note the "Save data Only" option, which does not work. Even if this option is selected, the resulting file is still populated by Wordxml.
You can choose to apply a custom transformation. A conversion can be a list, another conversion can generate a recall notification, and one item to notify the scheduled item is now available, and so on.
If "Save data only" doesn't work, how can you peel Wordxml to get a cleaner XML file? If Office Button-Save as, and set save type to another XML option--"Word 2003 XML document." When you do this, additional options are available, including apply transformations and save data only. The Save data only option really works at this point (although this file may be notified to be confusing when you save the file).
