Low poly (low-poly) font design is the latest and hottest design trend. The low-polygon font design is based on a 3D mesh with a small number of polygons, combined with some rendering techniques and lighting effects, to make these meshes look like paper crafts or origami works.

Low polygons often need to be implemented using 3D software, but this tutorial will teach you how to use the basic PS tool to achieve its 2D lite, and to make the low-poly effect more beautiful, we will use a very simple app- Image triangulator App (Don't worry, you'll have it below). The following are some of the artifacts of the function and results show:)

Polygon is a very fire this year a design, students can also try this: "Illustrator Novice Tutorial: Create cool Stylish polygonal background", the diagram is convenient to directly right-poke "web design trends: to taste the design of polygonal style," online generation of ash is often simple.

You can also go to the original site to download:

    • Image Triangulator App This is a polygon artifact. Warm tip: Please select download related version according to your system
    • Intrepid Extrabold Fonts
    • Light Grunge Textures

If you download 64-bit not run, then it is recommended to download 32-bit. Also can drop:)

The first step

Create a new file and set the file size according to your personal needs, this tutorial uses a A3 size to make it easier to print later. You do not need to set the same size, depending on the purpose of the work and the length of the text to be created to determine the appropriate file size.

Set the foreground color to #e7e9ea and the background color to #a4a5a1. Click the Gradient tool, select the foreground color to the background gradient fill, and click the radial gradient icon.

Then, click on the file and drag it from the center to the corner to create a background gradient.

Use the intrepid extrabold font to create text in all uppercase forms. The text size is 180pt and the line spacing is also set to 180PT (depending on the size of the file, you may want to set different font sizes and leading lines).

Use simple text as much as possible, because the image Triangulator app you use later can be time-consuming.

Ctrl-click the type layer thumbnail to create a selection, and then make a new layer named fill.

Set the foreground color to #9cbc2c, the background color to #405203, select filter → render → cloud, and choose Select → deselect from the toolbar.

Click File > Save As to format the file as a JPEG picture.

Step Two

After the image Triangulator app is uncompressed, open the Triangulateimage5.bat file. (Micro disk package download version is win 7 32-bit, if it is OS X system or 64-bit children's shoes, can be downloaded to the official website.) )

This will open several windows, one of which explains the purpose of each option, and familiarize yourself with the functionality of each option before use.

Another window is a tool window, and we'll use this window to design a low-poly font.

Step three

Click the Select Image button above (CHOOSE an image) to open the previously stored image.

Make sure that the display option is ORIGINAL (O).

The next thing to do is to click on the add point at the corners and edges of the font as accurately as possible, and it is important to maintain the alignment of the points so that the effect is better.

Another thing to note is that at least 1-2 points are added to the edge of each letter, and a short edge adds at least one point, and a long edge adds at least two points. This makes it easier to add polygon effects to the center of the alphabet.

Click on the On/off ERASER (E) button to delete or modify the points that have been added.

When the eraser tool (E) is selected, the mouse graphic becomes rounded. This way, you can click any added point and delete it, then switch the eraser tool (E) to off and add the desired point again. Switching on/off mode with the Eraser tool (E) can greatly increase your productivity.

Fourth Step

When you have finished adding all the points, click Result (R) to display the effect options. This option will show the base polygons created based on the points you added.

Now, click inside the text to add more polygons along the text center.

If some edges keep moving, either do not hover the mouse inside the letter or add more dots at the edge of the letter to fix their position.

After the polygon design of the text section is complete, add the polygon effect to the background around the text in the same way.

This process can be time-consuming, but this is the easiest way to create a 2D low poly effect at the moment.

Remember to toggle the result (R) display effect option to see the effect at any time to ensure that each section is well finished.

Fifth Step

Once all of your designs are up to your satisfaction, click the Write to PDF button to save your work.

You can open the file in PS and make further modifications, or save it as a different format.

In PS, open the Otf_light_grunge_12 texture, add it to the open image layer, set the layer blending mode to overlay, and adjust the opacity to 15%. This will make a little decoration for the final work.

Alternatively, you can save the created point, click the Save Points button, and name the file. The coordinates of these points will be saved as txt files that can be loaded later if needed.

Therefore, if you create text in PS with a different color style, and you need to create a low-poly style, simply open the image using the Image Triangulator app and click the LOAD POINTS button to open the previously saved coordinate file.

Note that the coordinate file only applies to the same text, so you can only modify the color style using the original coordinate file, and you cannot modify any other properties such as font, font size, text position, and so on.

When the coordinate file is loaded, toggle the result (R) display effect option to see the new color style applied effect.

Again, you can continue to edit the location of the point, or add or remove point operations.

In this way, all the steps are complete.

Hopefully you'll enjoy this tutorial and hopefully the techniques used in the tutorial will help you.
