Trying to use the collaboration feature of netbeans6.7 made me very depressed.

Eclipse has been used for Java Development. Recently, when studying eclipse ECF, it was found that netbeans started to support collaborative development very early, and netbeans6.7 was just released, it is said that there has been a great improvement in collaboration, so I will try it out with hope.

I don't want to focus on other functions, but I want to see the effects of collaborative development. I didn't expect this use, which made me a little depressed.

Search for "netbeans collaboration" on Google and find a project named "collab". This is a subproject of netbeans and provides collaboration plug-ins for netbeans.

This collab enables developers to chat and collaborate with code in real time on netbeans. The supported protocols include XMPP, JXTA, and sip. In addition, we also provide a step by step tutorial on how to build a local XMPP-based collaboration environment.

Unfortunately, when I set it step by step based on the example given by collab, I found that the operations were based on versions earlier than netbean6.5,The most depressing thing is that after a hard time using openfire to build an XMPP server, the next step is to connect to the server. It turns out that the netbeans6.7 interface does not have a place to log on to openfire.
.

Go back to the netbeans6.7 release notes and find that netbeans6.7 focuses on the collaboration objects in three directions:

1. Kenai

2. source code management tools, such as CVS and SVN

3. problem management tools, such as Bugzilla

In fact, integration with CVS and Bugzilla is not a collaboration, that is, tool integration. (Of course, I have not studied it in depth, I don't know if two people can compile a ticket at the same time and get notifications in real time ).

What is Kenai?

After a simple query, we found that it was an open-source project hosting website similar to SourceForge, which is also affiliated with Sun (of course, it belongs to Oracle now. Kenai claims that it provides a collaboration mechanism for hosting the above project (due to the time relationship, it has not had time to study it carefully, so it is hard to comment on the effect, but I want real-time collaboration, it is hard to support, but I personally think it is wise not to provide support for multiple protocols, and it also loses the spirit of freedom of collaboration ).

So I want to download netbeans6.5 and try to connect to openfire.Depressing
Later, Sun points all the links in earlier versions to the download page of netbeans6.7,This is a little rogue.
Fortunately, I was alert in time and canceled it in the next half of the time; otherwise, my time would be wasted.

After 6.5 is installed, the team collaboration plug-in is updated and can finally be followed by step.

---

After such a hard time, it is doubtful that sun was acquired by Oracle, is there any internal chaos? I feel a lot of things are sorry for each other, collab, a promising project, seems to have made little progress for a long time.

Netbeans should fight with Eclipse,

Kenai and SourceForge both,

It seems that the road is long and the distance is long.
