Installation: Please download the Chinese installation version from (the original version is not required). There are no special requirements for the installation process. You can click the next button to install it smoothly.
Click connectix Virtual PC to run the software from the Start Menu.
Interface for the first virtual PC running:
The "PC Installation Wizard" will pop up when you start virtual PC for the first time ", he means that "you have purchased all the parts required to assemble a computer from the computer market (of course, these parts are virtual on your computer, virtual PC is what virtual computers mean .), The "PC Installation Wizard" helps you assemble and configure these devices.
First, give a name to our computer. Suppose we want to install the Win98 operating system, so this virtual computer is called Win98.
Click Next To Go To The Configuration Options page. configuration options will guide you through configuring your virtual hard disk, memory size, and operating system. The default PC option is used when you are very familiar with the use of the software. Because it is the first time to use virtual PC, we use the setup wizard and click Next.
If the operating system we want to install is Win98, select Win98. You can also click the drop-down menu to see which operating systems can be installed on Virtual PC. Hey! As long as your hard disk is large enough, you can install various operating systems to see what they look like. Click Next.
Configure the memory of the Virtual Computer (not the memory occupied by the Virtual PC itself during running). It occupies the physical memory on your computer, that is to say, if the memory used by your computer is 256 MB, and the memory size configured here is 80 Mb (as shown in ), when a virtual computer is started, it will take up 80 mb of physical memory to run the Win98 to be installed. At this time, the operating system you are running will only have MB of available memory, therefore, if you want your virtual computer to run properly, your physical memory must be large enough. Install dos, win3.1, Win95, Win98, and other operating systems that require low memory. The physical memory must be above MB, such as Windows, WINXP, and Linux, it is recommended that the physical memory be larger than MB.
After a few steps, we know that the operating system to be installed on a virtual computer is WIN98 and its memory size is 80 Mb. Where is its hard disk? Good! The next step is to create our hard disk. If you use virtual PC for the first time, you certainly do not have a hard disk. Therefore, select the "Create a new hard disk image file" option and click Next.
This step selects the partition on the physical hard disk where the created virtual hard disk is located. The virtual hard disk is actually a separate file, which can only be read by the Virtual PC and is dynamic, the size of the file is determined by the amount of content you load. If the OS you installed is dos, the file size is only dozens of MB. If the OS is WINXP, the file size may be GB. As shown in figure 2, the hard disk location is H: \ win98.vhd.
Figure 1:
Figure 2:
In this step, the configuration step is complete. For the result, see. Success! The hard disk actually has 16384 MB, so there is no such large file on the hard disk. It doesn't matter. As I said earlier, this file (virtual hard disk) is dynamic. This number only indicates that the maximum size of this file is MB. Click "finish" to end the PC Installation Wizard.
As you can see, the empty Virtual PC list box contains the Win98 "closed" item, and the "attribute settings" on the right... "button," delete .. the "button and" Start System "button also become available. The following two images are pre-and post-configuration comparisons.
Before Configuration:
After Configuration:
First, let's take a look at the buttons on the panel. "New PC..." button, oh! The operation was just performed. Create a Linux instance according to the preceding operations. The result is as follows: (there are slight changes in the process of configuring Linux. Let's take a look at the reason ).
What is the "Property setting..." button used? It was originally used to adjust the previous configuration content. Here you can change the name of the PC, the memory size, and the hard disk used (hard disk image file ), the serial port and shared folder you want to use. Each item has a description, which is easy to understand, but you should also think about it carefully. In fact, most of the processes of using this software have instructions for use. When you encounter problems, you may be able to take a closer look at the instructions to solve the problems.
Let's take a look at what the "delete..." button is. Click Delete to bring up the following dialog box:
After clicking the OK button, the result is that Linux is not displayed in the Virtual PC list. As described above, the Linux hard disk image file is not deleted and can be found on the hard disk.
Now let's click the "Start System" button to see what will happen. A new window appears, and the following picture is quite familiar, such as the BIOS interface of the computer, have you seen it? How did I open this window? The answer is that when this new window appears, press the "delete" key on the keyboard. In fact, from clicking the "Start System" button, all operations are as if they were performed on a real computer, including various operations: shutdown, restart, hard disk partitioning, formatting the hard disk, starting from a soft drive, starting from a disk that can be started, and installing the operating system. Yes, we didn't install the operating system for the Win98 PC, so the prompt "OS not found" and "install an OS on this hard drive" appeared, this means that you have not installed the operating system. Next, let's install the Win98 operating system on this virtual machine.
First put a CD-enabled Win98 operating system installation disk into your optical drive (on my machine LG-DVD Drive drive letter is I:, your machine may be other drive letter ), click the "cd" option, and the "load master drive I:" menu will pop up. That is to say, the virtual PC can use your optical drive only after the drive is attached to the disc. Load the primary drive I:, the operation process
In addition, if you do not have an optical drive on your computer, you can directly load the ISO file for use. For Virtual PC, the ISO file is equivalent to the optical drive after being loaded. You can use the ISO editing software to make Win98 or other operating systems into an ISO file that can be started, and then load the file to install the operating system. The following is the process of loading the ISO file.
Click PC (P)-> restart (r)... start to DoS
I chose 2nd items. I started to DoS and loaded the optical drive, because do we need to install the operating system from the disc. Why didn't I partition and format the hard disk? By default, the virtual hard disks created by the Virtual PC are in the FAT32 format, and I only want to install an operating system for demonstration, so no more detailed operations are performed, if you are interested in partitioning and formatting a hard disk, try it by yourself. Press enter to proceed to the next step.
If the drive letter of the optical drive is D:, go to drive D and enter setup; to install Win98. Press enter to start installation.
Click "continue! It doesn't matter how the mouse is locked in the Virtual PC window. Press the right Alt key on the keyboard and the mouse is released again. When you are familiar with this software, you will understand that the right Alt key on the keyboard is the default "Hot Key" of Virtual PC. For example: "hotkey + enter" is used to convert windows and full screen mode. You can perform the following operations on your own.
During the installation process, you must note that some installation links will not respond for a long time. Please wait patiently. When installingProgramWhen restarting, release the optical drive first. Otherwise, it will be started to DoS (because the disc can be started ). For example, click "Release master drive I:" or simply bring the optical drive to the disk.
After completing step N, we finally installed Win98.
Next, install/update the additional module. The additional module is a program that fixes the inconvenient usage of the installed operating system and enhances the functions of the operating system. A module is included when Virtual PC is installed, but this module is only applicable to Windows operating systems. After this module is installed, the operating system can display it at 32-bit true color 800*600 resolution, you can share folders on a physical hard disk in a virtual PC by sharing folders. During the installation process, click "Install/update additional module (I )".
Wait a moment and the installation program appears. For example, the next installation is complete.
The following describes how to use shared folders. Right-click the folder, and choose share settings... and shared folder. Click share folder ".
Go to this screen, I set the shared disk to d :( Program), drive letter to "Z", set to always share (share the same folder at next startup ).
Yes? The "Program (Z :)", you can read and write it.
The following describes how to use networks. If you want to access the Internet on the client, first set "shared network mode" in "Property Settings"> "Network Settings ".
Next, install the "Internet Connection Sharing" component in your client (taking Win98 as an example ).
After the shared connection wizard is completed, you can access the Internet after restarting. Of course, your real computer must already have a dial-up connection, as shown in the lower right corner.
I can only say so much. Try other operations on your own! I don't think it's hard for you to be smart.
