Ubuntu 10.04 install vmtools

Recently, I 've been on a whim, I want to talk about Linux again. Open the official website and check it out. Mom, it's 10.04. Because it is in a virtual machine, we need to install vmtools to achieve compatibility with the operating system... but suddenly we found that it has changed with the previous installation methods. No nonsense. Let's get started!

1. Set root permissions

The root permission is disabled by default in Ubuntu, so the first step of installation is to enable the root permission. The specific method is: after entering the Ubuntu system, there is a tag in the upper left corner of the desktop: Application-attachment-terminal.

Enter: sudo Su in the terminal and press Enter. Enter the current user password to enter the root permission.

2. Install VMware Tool

First, go to the Ubuntu system and click the VMware Workstation menu: VM --- install VMware Tools. a cd icon is created on the Ubuntu system desktop, to load the Installation File of VMware tool into the Ubuntu optical drive, and then enter the following command in the terminal:

Switch to the VMware Tools directory CD/CDROM/VMware Tools. Note that this is already in the/Media/VMware Tools directory in ubuntu10.4. This is the main difference. You do not need to change the following content, same as the previous installation method.

Switch to the root directory CD/

Run the extract command to decompress the tar package tar vzxf VMwareTools-6.0.0-55017.tar.gz

Switch to the vmware-tools-distrib directory CD vmware-tools-distrib/

Install VMware Tools./vmware-install.pl
