Download the Linux driver suitable for your ATI graphics card, because my computer is ThinkPad t400, 32-bit Ubuntu 9.10.
So I chose Linux x86 and the graphics card driver model is ATI radeon HD 3XXX series. File Name: ati-driver-installer-9-11-x86.x86_64.run.
2. install necessary Libraries
Terminal command
Sudo apt-Get install build-essential CDBs fakeroot DH-make debhelper debconf libstdc ++ 5 dkms
Note: libstdc ++ 5 Library cannot be installed, Because ubuntu 9.10 contains the updated libstdc ++ 6 library.
3. Create the Deb installation package for the video card
Terminal command
Sh ati-driver-installer-9-11-x86.x86_64.run -- buildpkg Ubuntu/karmic
Note: different versions of ubuntu are followed by different parameters.
4. Install the Deb package of the video card
For 32-bit systems:
Terminal command
Sudo dpkg-I xorg-driver-fglrx_8.671-0ubuntu1_i386.deb fglrx-kernel-source_8.671-0ubuntu1_i386.deb fglrx-amdcccle_8.671-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
