A few months ago, I started to try to install breezy (Ubuntu 410) on my machine (amd64, geforce6100 + nforce 5.10 chipsets, X cannot start, so don't mention anything else. It has tossed n nights, failed, discouraged, and finally gave up.
This is not the case. Recently, I 've got the courage to install a dapper (Ubuntu 6.06) Flight 6. Let's just say it's a bit of a cow. It's just installed with a color, but the network is still disconnected, I had a hard time sleeping at four o'clock in the morning. I had to go to bed.
The next day, let's talk about it. It really happened to me. Someone has the same problem as me. the chipset has the same symptoms. Then let's look at it, the following is a story from gerick:
One trick I learned with dual-boot is that something gets loaded the onboard NIC (firmware ?) By the Windows drivers that prevents Linux from using the NIC. the trick is after shutting down Window XP, turn off the machine, and unplug it (ATX still powers the board with 5vdc even when turned off ). leave the machine unplugged for about 10 seconds, plug back in, then see if forcedeth works.
I can't believe it. Is there such a disgusting problem ?! Alas, it's disgusting. Try again.
Shut down and plug the plug-in to go out. In a short time, turn it on again, start the system, and enter ubuntu. I am relying on it. That's all !!
I'm crazy. I 've been tossing for a few months, but the solution is a simple cold start?
Anyway, after all, the problem is solved. I should be happy.
