Ubuntu defaults to a lot of fonts with it. But sometimes you may not be satisfied with the fonts. So what you can do is install additional fonts in Ubuntu 14.04, 14.10, or other Linux systems like Linux Mint.
The first step: Get the Font
The first and most important step is to download the font you chose. Now you may be thinking about downloading fonts from where. Don't worry, Google search can provide you with a few free font sites. You can take a look at the font of Lost Type first. Squirrel is also a good place to download fonts.
Step Two: Install new fonts in Ubuntu
The downloaded font file may be a compressed package, unzip it first. Most font files are in the form of TTF (TrueType fonts) or OTF (OpenType fonts). Either way, just double-click the font file. It is automatically opened with the Font viewer. Here you can see the installation options in the upper-right corner.
You do not see additional information when you install fonts. After a few seconds, you will see the status become installed. Do not guess, the font has been installed.
Once installed, you can see your newly installed fonts in GIMP, Pina and other applications.
Step Two: Install several fonts at a time on Linux
I didn't make a mistake. This is still the second step but it is only an option. What we see above is a good way to install fonts in Ubuntu. But there is a small problem. When you have 20 new fonts to install. A single double-click is cumbersome and troublesome. Don't you think so?
To install a few fonts at a time in Ubuntu, the only thing you need to do is create a. Fonts folder in your home directory if it doesn't exist. and copy the extracted TTF and OTF files into this folder.
Enter the home directory in the file Manager. Press Ctrl+h to display hidden files in Ubuntu. Right-click to create a folder and name. Fonts. The point here is very important. In Linux, adding dots to the front of a file is hidden in normal view.
Alternative scenario:
In addition you can install the Font management program, in the graphical user interface to manage fonts. To install the font management program in Ubuntu, open the terminal and enter the following command:
sudo apt-get install Font-manager
Open the font manager from the Unity Dash. Here you can see the installed fonts and install new fonts, delete fonts and other options.
