Do not directly modify the/boot/grub/grub.cfg, directly modify the file is useful, but may be overwritten after the Update-grub command, so it is recommended to modify the/etc/default/grub file.
Pre-modified configuration file (/etc/default/grub):
grub_default=0grub_hidden_timeout=0grub_hidden_timeout_quiet=true grub_timeout=grub_distributor2>/dev/nullecho Debian 'grub_cmdline_linux_default="quiet Splash" Grub_cmdline_linux=""
Modified configuration file:
grub_default=0 #Grub_hidden_timeout=0Grub_hidden_timeout_quiet=trueGrub_timeout=3Grub_distributor= ' Lsb_release-i-S2>/dev/NULL||EchoDebian '#Grub_cmdline_linux_default ="Quiet Splash"Grub_cmdline_linux=""
After everything has been modified, run the update command.
sudo update-grub
Description
The blue bold part of the configuration file was modified to implement the default wait time for changing the Grub menu.
The red Bold section is modified to display details on the boot.
Modify the wait time to change the grub_timeout to the time you want, in seconds. Be careful to comment out Grub_hidden_timeout, otherwise the modification will not work.
Modify the boot display details, directly grub_cmdline_linux_default comments out. But I saw in http://www.xzcblog.com/post-160.html blog post that I had to modify the/etc/grub.d/10_linux file. I did not do so and success, perhaps his version of Ubuntu is older, perhaps for other reasons, if you only modify the grub file does not work, you can refer to his article.
